View Full Version : DId u notice something missing in WIN2000?
I have currently upgraded to WIN2000 at my office machine. I've had it at home for about a month but never noticed this little quark. At work I use alot of batch files, did you notice that if you right click on a batch file you no longer get the option to edit, print, or open? You can only left click it to run the file. To edit it you have to either change how windows reconizes it or open it in notepad. But you don't have that easy short cut that we have always had with previous WinBloze OS. Just wondering if anyone knew how to resolve the problem or even noticed it. It seems to affect any old DOS application/command files. Let me know what you think.

I make batch files at least once a week and I have no problem right clicking them and selecting edit. Or print for that matter. Are these one's that you have made or are these batch files that came with something else. They permissions may be set on them so you can't alter them, hence the edit and print being gone.
Most are ones we made. But I'll check that and see if that has something to do with it. It's just that I can't find one 2000 machine at work that will let you right click on a Bat and edit it. Thanks for the help!
Ok, I have an Idea. Could it be that since my 2000 installation was a fresh install in NTFS format and NOT an upgrade from 98 is the reason that it's missing this options. I'm curious to hear if anyone else has this problem with a fresh install. And Kingslayer, did you upgrade or was your a fresh install? Thanks

I have a fresh install of win2k not a upgaded version and it is there for me.
I tried making a bat file and I am able to right click and get the edit etc. I think that I would look at the files properties. If the person who made the bat file is different person you may not have permission to change it. Check your user type (admin, user etc).

I have a fresh install of 2k in NTFS on three computers here at home and they all can edit, and print the bat's.
Check the permissions. If one person created it under his profile and you are trying to edit it, it's probably not going to let you. Especially if you logged in as a Power User and he's an Admin.
Log on to the local machine, using the local machines admin account or an account with full admin permissions and see if you can get the edit then.
If that doesnt work let me know and I will show you how to change file associations under Win2k. If you have installed a different word processor program, it will associate .bat files to that program, and that might be what is stopping you.
