hi, newbie abt RAID
i plan to run RAID (mirroring) @ SQL server Win 98 OS, since the program basic on Win98 :(

got 2 pc
1st PC will be named PC1 would be older PC going to be back up PC
got no RAID , and 1 HDD named as 1A

2nd PC will be PC2 would run RAID 0 (mirror) got 2 HDD rite 2A & 2B (active)

PC 1 & PC 2 not identical spesification

the question is : if the active PC suddenly disable hardware crash or what ever, can i just take the HDD 2A or 2B then put @ the PC 1 & run the program from HDD 2A / 2B???

would become any problem? when mirroring, do OS from HDD 2A or 2B got the windows? becos if yes, since the PC 1 & 2 not identical spesification, would OS from HDD 1A & HDD 2A/2B (whatever i plug to PC 1) conflic???

pls help

thx in advance

I would say you could not run windows from the mirored drive if you take one of the mirrored drives and put it in another computer with a different motherboard. You should be able to add the mirrored drive (2A/B) as a slave and boot from the 1A drive accessing the slave drive normally as a second hard drive.

ic, thx for reply
so if i take mirrored drive (2A/2B) to become slave @ PC 1 running windows from HDD 1A, SQL server data from 2A/2B can be accessed perfectly? (no need syncronize HDD 1A to access HDD 2A?

sorry asking this stupid question, but very blur abt this :(

thx in advance

In a mirrored set both drives are identical,so in that respect the data could be acessed from either of the drives of PC2 on PC1.
