Okay I have NEVER EVER seen this message before. Maybe it has appeared before and I just never saw it but was just rebooting my computer today and at the point in the boot where it shows some boxes that list your hardware and all, underneath it was this flashing message saying Warning SPD not found in DIMM 4. The computer finished booting up and both sticks are visible. Anyone have a clue what this means? I have 2 512M sticks of Crucial CAS 2 133 ECC RAM. Does it have something to do with ECC? I've never had ECC RAM before but since the ABIT BX133-RAID supports ECC I figured I'd give it a shot.
The SPD module is a teeny little chip on your memory that reports what CAS it's rated for, if it's PC100, PC133, or whatever type of RAM. If it has died, that may be bad news. Or not. I just don't know, it's never happened to me. Check out the program called CtSPD on this page right here. (http://www.viahardware.com/download/viatweak.shtm)
It reads that little chip's data. If it can't find any data then it's a good bet the SPD module is dead. Of course, I have some El Cheapo RAMs here that just plain don't have a SPD at all, I think, that could cause the same error, I suppose.
