i read that ddr220 at 2-2-2-6 beats ddr275 3-3-3-8 i'm just wondering is this true and anybody got a table or something be helpful. just getting into ram and i had the stupid idea faster is always better.

They are very close. I have read that 25mhz makes up for 0.5 CL, ao that would make the ddr 220 a hair faster. This is a very rough analysis and I wouldn't take it to the bank, but there is a point where higher speed compensates for higher latency.

You should look here:

and here:

That should help you. Ask questions if you cannot understand what those posts contain, as they are slightly complicated, but the ultimate point is pretty much explained at the end.

I have read that analysis and while I don't question those results, I do find the conclusions rather dubious. You cannot make those kinds of extrapolations from such a limited test sample. My own testing of my system does not bear out those conclusions. His figure of 25% more MHz to cancel out the slower timings is way more than it takes. As I said earlier I wouldn't go to the bank on my calculations, but I wouldn't go on his either. The best advice is to test it out on your system and go with what works best for you. Good luck.

so underclocking my ram by 20% and dropping the timings down wouldn't be all worth it guess the only way to find out is to try

Those are guidelines, you should take them into consideration, and use them as a starting point.

You will need to do your own testing if you are looking to find the optimum point for your system.

That is exactly right. It only takes a few minutes to test out, and I think it's fun to experiment with different settings to see what you can get out of it. Good luck and have fun.

just a random question, do larger memory modules produce higher latency?

With large sticks of ram, 1 or 2 gigs, the timings are slower, but with a 512mb stick you can still get low latency
