I have become quite curious and concerned about my bandwidth usage for various reasons and need some type of bandwidth monitor to inform me of just how much bandwidth I am using every month. I just want to be sure I don't go over my ISPs cap. I figure it is better that I prevent it, rather than getting a letter from them and being suspended for a period of time. I don't really know of any bandwidth monitoring options, software, or hardware, so if anyone can make some suggestions I really would appreciate it. :)

If you have not received warning yet, you are likely not in any danger of a suspension. Many places must notify you before suspension or penalty charges.
If you are really concerned about your level of bandwidth usage, you should start by reading the service contract you are subject to by paying your ISP.

I was going to drop in here to say NetStat Live, but someone beat me to that. I use it, will vouch for it too, working at a major ISP as Internet Support, this is the best program I have come across (apart from what we use at work, that keeps a log of bandwidth for past 7 days, real nifty....)
But go with NetStat Live. I'm just seconding his vote.

I just installed BandView onto my smoothwall. I love it. This way it does the totals for the whole connection, and not just my computer.

I used to use Netstat Live but found that the monthly tracker reset after 20 gigs. Now I use DUmeter whenever I'm really worried about it, mostly I just check my ISPs records.

Well, everyone here seams to like netstat live, except for that one guy heh :p I'll have to try both netstat live, and DUmeter. If I ever implement smoothwall I'll try bandview, but I don't know if I will ever use it, only time will tell

Netstat live sucks IMO... It resets all the time, and I have no idea what my bandwidth usage is at all after trying it out from the above posts.

I don't know bout it reseting it's stats, maybe it does. I don't use it that much, but when I launch it, it provides the stats for this month for THIS nic, as it is installed on 'this' computer, not installed on the 8 other pc's on my lan.
..........I have no d/l cap on my cable account.
I ran DU Meter for a few years now. It keeps good track of my bandwidth.
I use netlimiter. It's very robust for what I use it for. You can limit upload and download speed by program, and also set up different speeds for different times/days/weeks/etc. It also logs how much you download/upload and can chart it by hour/days/week/month/year. Then you can chart it by program or the computer as a whole.
