I am fairly familiar with all of the home operating systems, but not with NT/2000. I use msconfig a lot, especially the startup tab.

How can I get to and edit these files in Win 2000 ?

Control panel/admin tools/services......Under the services icon you will see all the programs and services that load on startup. You can change programs from automatic start to manual start etc.

I know that you can get to the System Information menu just like in Win 98SE but there is no System Configuration option. I tried going Start/Run/Msconfig but get the file not found error. I have been able to turn off all the stuff I don't want loading like the Win2K fax program but turning them off in the services menu. Perhaps there is a shareware program that somebody has written that acts like old SCU?

if you want msconfig get it from a win98 install and put it in win2k it will work. I did this when I first installed win2k. win2k doesn't put all of the startup progams in one nice place for you to play with. You have to look at each program that runs at startup and make the decisions in each program some can be accessed in the startup folder in progams on the startup menu and services are in the services section in administative tools.

Windows XP actually comes with a "msconfig" program like Windows 98. I have that and it works in 2000. If you want if I can email it to you. Just send me an email if you want.

Thanks , but it is my Mom's work system. I try not to load anything that isn't strictly for the system on it. If it was mine I would be a lot more daring, but with it being hers I try to be SUPER careful.
