Firstly, consider investing in some aftermarket cooling like an Ati Silencer. This should help keep your temps down, which is obviously a good thing.
Ermm, google is your friend... I dunno really.
Is that 552 the core or Ram cause if its the core then omfg thats quite a high OC...

Ya my temps are @ ~28/38C (Idle/Load) with a Ati Silencer. And it's 552/315 (Core/Ram)

Ohhh its a 4 pipe card, thats why. I was like !?!?! Where did you read off your VGA temps? I think my 9700p doesn't have a sensor cause I've never seen the temps anywhere

Mine has a temp monitor. Viewed in ati tool and overdrive menu.

stock is 500.
Also check out the orb stats at futuremark. You can see how many mhz people are getting out of them and you can decide if the gains are worth it. I would get an ati silencer or maybe that new zalman if it fits and call it a day. If you want to tackle some volt mods, and can afford to replace the card then go for it, but i'd say a 9600 isn't worth putting a lot of money into.
check out rivatuner, it's a nice utility and has lots of features for overclocking and monitoring. ati tool is nice but the max core max mem tests aren't always accurate.

After read some stuff off google I decided just to run 3dmark03 and look for artifacts...
No artifacts that I can see at... 562/324 (Core/Mem) Does this sound okay? Should I try for more?

nice dude are you using stock cooling. I have iceberq ramsinks on mine. I have gotten 553/648. I get 56 C at full load under ati tool. I have no artifacts whatsoever. Whould I go more?

After lapping the stock heatsink (I actually didn't do a very good job) and using Arctic Silver 5, I was able to push 590 without any visible artifacts. Quite a nice overclocker.
Any more than 50* C seems a bit high. Mine runs ~45* C at load. Although it is sneaking towards 50 now that it's Summertime. Any hotter and my games crash.
I have the 128MB version card by the way, if that matters...
ATITool seems to get the job done pretty well, just don't rely on its Max core/Max mem feature.
Have you put any RAMsinks on your memory? Now that I think of it, do you have rectangular or square memory? Rectangular is supposed to OC pretty poorly. I mean without RAMsinks, with square RAM I was able to push 340.

My 9600xt (stock cooling) oc's to 575/390 (780) without vissual artifacts on most games. With an extra fan I can push the clocks to 580/425 (850). An awesome oc'er, happy to have the 2.5 ns chips, I could push them more, if I could raise the voltage a bit.

Mine benches at 650/350, that's with a pencil mod to bump the gpu vcore to 1.42v.
Just wish I didn't have the ****ty 3.3 ram as ram clocks really make a big difference on thsi card.
