The Maxtor DM10 is SataII compliant. You can find them here:

are new egg and other companies having a difficult time labling the SATA2 drives and just labling them Sata or Sata 150 mabe possibly?

i want120-200 gigs, i figure that'll keep me arround the $100 range....i did get $1300 for a tax return but i still havent found another job and well, i wanna keep some to get some fun computer stuff later this year

Ahh ya give up so easily! :D

Here's a new 200GB for $128

Here's a new 160GB for $94

Those two are a mistake IMO, but it IS your money. They lack the additional 8MB of cache that makes this drive truly special. Remember also the rule of HDs is figure out what you need and double it, you generally need it eventually. This rule has always been applicable for me. The cost/GB generally drops as capacity goes up.

Here's a 250Gb for $182...not so great IMO when 50GB more is only $11.50 more, but it is the smallest DM10 w/ 16MB cache.

...and finally if you're daring here's a refurbed 300Gb for $166.50 & $4 less shipping as well. This IS a good deal, but you have to be comfy w/ refurbs. I currently have 6 refurbed drives from newegg. Two have failed in a freak power spike that I still don't understand, but I don't believe it was the drive's fault as they both died at precisely the same second...two years after I bought them. Maxtor warranties the DM9+ drives untill early 2007, so I've advanced RMA'd both drives w/o issue and the replacements are now functioning perfectly in secondary systems on my LAN.

There is currently only a VERY VERY SMALL advantage to SATA II. This is because there arnt any SATA II controllers out yet...so it doesnt utilize real SATAII....NCQ IS NOT SATAII

True, I believe it's merely an alleged bump in burst transfer rate which is always theoretical.

I believe it's supposed to be Sata 2. It definately supports NCQ and is as far as I know the only AMD chipset that currently supports this feature.

Yes I just noticed a reference to a DM10 200Gb drive w/ 16Mb cache on Maxtor's site...sort of. It says:

DiamondMax 10
Formatted capacity: 80, 120 160, 200, 250 and 300GB
Average seek time: <9.0
Rotational speed: 7200 RPM
8MB cache buffer on 80GB to 200GB and 16MB cache buffers on 200GB to 300GB
Parallel or Serial ATA interface:
- ATA/133
- SATA/150 Interface with Native Command Queuing
Fluid Dynamic Bearings
Maxtor Shock Protection System
Maxtor Data Protection System

Yet I don't recall seeing a 200Gb DM10 Sata 16Mb drive for sale anywhere. Nor could I find any reference to such a drive on newegg. Is the one you ordered Sata or Pata firebat45?
