Hey I have two problems. One: I don't know how to setup sound for duke 3d. It has some selections but I don't see onboard sound on it. I REALLY want sound on it, what settings could I use.

My second problem is quake 2 won't install, saying that it's not installable on this windows 95/98/NT language pack. I have service pack 2 for XP, what is wrong?

For Duke, try using standard Sound Blaster. I'm currently playing Jagged Alliance - a DOS game from 1994 - and that's the selection I used and it works just fine with my on board sound. Almost every sound chipset still supports that standard. Use device manager to find the IRQ and other settings of your card if necessary.

Regarding Quake 2, try creating a shortcut to the install program - and then go to the properties of the shortcut and select the compatibility mode tab. Set the compatibility to either Windows 95 or Windows 98/ME. If one doesn't work try the other. I ran into a very similar issue trying to install Hexen II a few weeks ago and that's how I got around it. You may also need to do the same thing to play the game.

Another nifty trick with Quake2, if you can, install the game on an older computer, and just copy over the directory where everything saved, onto your newer comp, and it will work fine. :santa:

Okay, my IRQ for my onboard sound is 22... or 21. The setup only goes to 17.

And the second thing didn't work for quake 2. I'll try using an old computer to install it. I just need to find one... >_<
