looks good, you won't appear on the members list until you turn in that first unit, but that shouldn't be too long(of course it varies depending on cpu speed).

yeah, i checked out ALL the stuff on the website....

i should have my first fold done in about 4 hours from now. leaving it on ALL night, and ALL day tomorrow....

can i run this at work, using same username? i have a workstation at work, and im the only one using it.... its SLOW, but reliable, and it has MAD downtime ( from 5pm - 8am daily, and weekends).

i know for SETI, you can only use the proggie on 1 computer at a time.

oh, one more thing, is this purely processor? i know hard drive doesnt matter, but what about ram? does that help?

It depends on the raw speed og your processor.

The faster the CPU the more proteins you fold.

The speed of the RAM helps a little, very very little, but it can shave a few minutes off of a big protein. The CPU is about 98% responsible for the results.

can i run this at work, using same username?

You sure can. Just install like you did on your original machine. When it asks for email put in your username just like you did at home. Walla, you are starting your own folding farm :D

That is how I have so many machines. All but one of mine are work machines running 24/7.

Also, Athlons run faster than PIII's or PIV's as far as folding time goes. You can buy folding boxes for pretty cheap. ~$200. That is how stanman did so well. I am slowly adding boxes and upgrading workstations at work with better athlons :).

Glad to have you. Each machine helps, I have several slow machines that it takes 8 to 10 minutes per work unit. They really add up.

EM works well if you have 5 or less machines on one network if you have more, kdfold can handle up to 10,000. It is at Plastic Studios (http://www.plasticstudios.org)

how can i tell how many ive already done? i left it on all night, and i see a 77% box, but it only took like 30 minutes to do 13%. is there a counter? ( i have electron microscope).

I just started using EM yesterday, but I believe the progress bar at the bottom is for the total work unit you are processing and the bar towards the top is for the individual frame.

You should have estimated time / frame as well as an estimated finish time as well.

Fold On...!!!

I haven't used EM in awhile but here it goes :).

One indication of how many WU's you have done is looking in the Black box next to Time Per Frame: It should have WU: 4306. Or some number. You can try doulbe clicking on that box to refresh it.

Also, next to the Finish Before: there are 2 arrows, one pointing left and another pointing right. click on that box next to them. It should bring down a box that summarizes Which proteins you have folded.

If you want to see your stats broken down in the most recent 3 hour increments go to Statsman (http://www.statsman.org/foldingstats/41.html) .

Any other questions? Just ask :).

A few of us are gonna gang up and fold under your name for 3 days to give you a good start in the stats. Watch for your totals to rise as soon as the server comes back up.

cool! sounds great. im really trying to get some folds. cant do it ALL the time since i have DVD ripping going on a lot too... (that takes 110% cpu usage).

thanks so much though, i plan on really getting up there....
