each anti-virual and spy/adware combo has its benefits and drawbacks. Many people go with 'biggies' like Norton or McAffee because that is what thier systems came with. Others choose different by going with many of the free softwares on the net. I have used Norton, AVG, and Trend.... and my preference is AVG... but they all work pretty much the same, as long as you keep them updated.

As with spy/adware removers... you really need a combo. Ad-aware, Spybot, and (not sure what the name of it is)...another one that is web-based (im sure other members here know what i'm talking about)

but, remember, smart internet usage cuts back on the majority of all problems. if i'm not mistaken over 98% of all viruses are still e-mail based. You just need to know what to look for to avoid those. Most adware/spyware comes along in programs you install from the net, so just know what 'rider programs' come with your fave programs from the internet, so you can protect yourself from those spy/adwares.

I'm sure others here can also give some helpful advice.

i use avg for anti-virus and a combo of ad-aware se/spybot/spywareblaster for anti-adware and spyware. it works really well for me.

thanks for all the advice, so far i have used webroot, avg, norton and a trial version of mcfee. all i can say is that the avg wasnt really easily understood, and that norton and mcfee does not update enough. also the ad-aware has worked pretty good, and ive heard good things about trendmicro. i think i will go with trend micro and a combo of adaware and some other spyware sweeper. thanks for all your help, and suggestions would be really nice. peace :)
