what is your sisoft score on the drive. It should be between 19k and 25k also there is not as much difference between ata100 and ata66 scores as one is led to believe. I have an ata66 drive it's sustained transfer rate is in the 27 - 29MB/sec range and same drive in ata100 flavor gets a susstained transfer rate of 33 - 35MB/sec

Are you using the 80 pin ide cables? If not your drive will not show up as ATA100. Also check in the bios startup screen....Does it show your drives as UMDA5?

Yes I am using the right cables and it shows the drives as UDMA 5 at start up.

ATA-100 supports was left out of Win2K. (Don't ask me why, I can't fathom why) You need to do one of two things. Either install the ATA-100 patch or install Service Pack 2. This will fix your situation.

Come to think of it, I never installed it on mine...

That was the first thing that I did after installing all of the MB drivers.
I just installed sndra on the 98se partition and got a score of 24842.
Should I uninstall and then reinstall SP2?

Harddrives connected to the ata100 controler. I know it's a stupid question.

Yes that is a very stupid question and the ansser is yes thay are.

I was grasping at straws there because it should be working in ata100 mode and I have the same hard disk and it gets about 25k in sisoft sandra. The only reason I asked is because the onboard contoler is only ata66. As I said I was gasping at straws.

No the A7v133 has an ATA100/Raid controler that is what the drives are pluged into.

Only thing I can think of is win2k doesn't like the raid controler. I was thinking about buying this motherboard now I don't know.

Hold on, what RAID controller and what version of Sandra are you using.

Sandra can't properly bench IDE RAID controllers. Don't go buy a new board cuz Sandra isn't giving you the scores that you want. Get a different program to verify. There are a few drive benchmark utilities that are way better than sandra. And they support RAID arrays unlike older versions of Sandra.

Do you know what RPM your Maxtor runs at? If it's not at least a 7200, you won't ever get great scores.

Just my .02

Yes thay are 7200rpm ATA100 drives I did a test on my other drive booted in WIN2K and it got 24700 so I gues that NTFS is not so good after all. Next time I reformat I will test it FAT32.

You're not going to see an improvement going to FAT32.

Don't trust Sandra, it can't handle RAID arrays. Get a different program. Get Hard Drive Tach and see what it tells you.
