Hello!

I need some 2x512 dual channel ram, preferably under $150. Any ideas as to the best deal?

I've never used PDP before, but are these (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-220-006&depa=0) any good?

EDIT: I just need something to run between 400-430mhz :)

The stuff you listed is good enough. It uses mosel-vitalic chips. You wont get much if any overclock out of them, but they get the job done

I think you'd like these better and they are a great deal.

How did I know I'd find you replying to this post R? :) Good to see you on this fine easter morning....

Anyway....Those G. Skill ones are pretty decent and run DDR500 at normal voltages. Good choice...and a KILLER deal on a gig of ram.

My G.Skill are the $110 ones on newegg. They were $145 a month ago when I bought them though :(

Anyways, they are pretty sweet. I'm running DDR480 right now on 2.7v, error free. But they are VERY VERY VERY sensitive to heat. Before I put fans over my ram i'd get hundreds of errors, now I don't get a single one doing 260mhz with 2 80mm fans over them @ 3v

I'm in the same situation and was wondering why people are saying G.Skill over the TwinMOS? The TwinMOS is UTT- is the G.Skill TCCD?

Thanks,
CJ

I think the reason is two-fold. First to buy twinmos and an OCZ booster would cost over his stated $150 budget and considerably more that the $110 GSkills. (They are not tccd by the way) Secondly, there is no guaranty that the twinmos will perform under voltage in the way we have come to expect from utt. In fact, there's no guaranty that they will even be utt.

Thanks- would your recommendation be the same if his motherboard would supply the voltage without the RAM booster?

Mine wouldn't. Anyone with a board that supplies enough volts for UTT should get it in my book. I'd probably suggest the Mushkin or the OCZ Value VX.

The only way that I knew that the twinmos was likely UCCD was because of prior reviews. How would I know which Mushkins were UCCD's? The only OCZ Value VX's that I can find are around $180 for 2x512.

I just bought a stick of Samsung PC3200 512mb for $50 Canadian, recieved them this morning, and man they run pretty nice. Was going to buy 2 but NCIX.com wouldn't let me buy one on sale and one pricematched.

Anyways the thing is on a BrainPower PCB, kinda surprised me, using TCCC chips 503's I think it was. They ran up to 241 @ 2.5-3-3-6 2.7v originally this morning. I put them on memtest test 5 looped for like 277 times for burn in and now they run 244mhz. From my old set, I know that they'll probably gain like 8mhz so I'm hoping for maybe 250mhz? DDR500.

This was all at 2.7v, have the initial Asus K8N-E Dlx  .

Offtopic: I think the mem controller on my A64 doesn't work very well anymore cause when I try to run it at 244x10, I get a whole bunch of program errors in Windows and I can't do a thing. Setting it at 227x11 though works flawlessly.
