Hey all..
I wonder if someone could explain this.. In RivaTuner, if I set my Core Clock to 401 and my Memory Clock to 1050, I score around 5400 in 3DMark05... however, if I bump the core to 420 and the memory clock to 1080, my 3DMark05 score is around 5200... Can someone explain why this happens?

Thanks!

With increasing the clocks means more heat, this could mean that you have went out the sweet spot of the card.

If the card has thermal de clocking when it will lower the clock at higher temps this could cause the lower score.

Im sure this issue has been raised in the past...

i agree, i get that as well, so i just up it my like 1mhz at a time beteween runs and when my score starts to go down i know its my overclock actually hurting my scores..

The card never exceeds 75c on stock cooling... I've read about cards getting closer to 90c+ and not having issues... That's why I posted on here since I thought it was odd that the card was relatively cool and this was happening.

You might try testing it several times at each speed, not just once. :)

You've clocked past the stable point on the card. The reason you're not getting artifacts or crashes is because you're not too far past the highest clock. The card is producing errors and the error correction in the card is having to do double calculations which is why the scores are dropping with a clock increase. I would guess another 10-15 on the core would probably cause crashes and/or freezing.

i have the same card. my scores increase the higher i go. i set it to 426/1170 and runs beautiful in benchmarks, and scores are high. but the only crappy problem is i can only use these settings for benchmarking. i cant use it for gaming, the games crash and my rig restarts. so for top quality gaming settings, i found 415/1150 to be perfect. never been happier with this card.

you ram should do what mine does 1150. what cooler do you have? the heatpipe one with two fans like mine (my avatar) or the big sinlge fan cooler?

I have the stock cooler on it... I can't go above 1080 because each time I do, RivaTuner tells me my drivers can't support that.. I guess it might be because I am software OCing and not flashing the BIOS....

Ok, I'll check out CoolBits when I get home from work tonight. Thanks!
