Sorry, this sounds like an obvious question and I'm not questioning your intelligence, but is your keyboard plugged in?
Is it plugged into the keyboard and not mouse port?
Can you access the bios?

here is something you should try, just in case, and if it doesn't work, you can report back.
1. With computer off, disconnect Keyboard and Mouse (assuming both are PS/2).
2. Connect back ONLY the keyboard. You can do the entire setup with keyboard (tab for next item, Shift+Tab for previous item, Space for select, Enter for accept)
3. Try again.
4. If it still doesn't work, if you have a spare keyboard around, attempt it with that.

that's cool man, glad ya got your problem solved. I've never heard of an "F-Lock" key... is that something specific to your keyboard?

It must be. I've seen it on other boards before. My F keys were working in BIOS so I didn't even think about it. Thanks for the help.

I had same issue haha, was using my new logitech keyboard and could'nt get windows to install. Was getting me so ticked off, then I tried hitting the f-lock key for the heck of it and bam it worked. My geuss is this key is for gaming or something like that, not to sure though why its there.
The newer Logitech Elite boards have a f-lock button. This must be active for the functions keys to work.

I will never again buy a keyboard with an F lock on it. My old one had it and caused nothing but problems. It makes you feel so dumb when you say "crap i forgot to hit F lock " lol

if you use the keyboard on the PS/2 port, it will default to off everytime you boot, which gets very annoying after a while, because i never use the default functions, and i often use the F-keys. If you plug it into the USB port, it will remember what it was set at last time your computer was on, so then it will stay on (or off, w/e you prefer). MUCH less annoying.

i know this thread is kinda old... but is there a jumper on the motherboard to select power to the PS/2 ports form regular 5 V to 5 V sideband? (used for "power on via keyboard / mouse" stuff) i tihnk that if you put this on sideband it would keep power to the keyboard and maybe keep the setting for the F lock? and BTW, new M$ keyboards have the F lock too, i think they have special functions they ASSign to the keys for added functionality of the KB.. i with it would default on tho instead of havin to his the stupid F lock.

well, no mobos i've bought in the last few years had that option for the PS/2 ports. Why is it a problem though? Every computer that runs XP has USB, bar maybe 1 in a million. So, just use the USB port, because then the keyboard remembers.

Yeah, when I read the first post, my guess was F-Lock, lol. I don't mind F-Lock, once you get used to it being there. I never turn my PC off, and when I restart, F-Lock comes on by default.
