View Full Version : OEM Norton Ghost , help I cant seem to make a backup image on a cd..
update :
Umm never mind 2Kpro is'nt supposed to have DOS so it makes sense that Ghost wouldnt work.
I run Win2K NTFS and Ghost 2001....Works fine. You make a dos boot disk and then add the file ghostpe.exe to the disk. Boot from the floppy and then type ghostpe at the A: prompt. It bypasses all your Win2K startup files and loads ghost. You must have two hard drives or a partitioned hard drive to use ghost as it will not back up to the same drive/partition. Saved my bacon three days ago when I tried to download IE6....system would not boot after the "upgrade". I used ghost to recopy my image and I was back up and running int about 20 min!!!!!
I make the image on my second HD....Its 5.5 GB so its too big for a CD. If yours will fit on a cd I would suggest making the image like I did and then buringing the *.gho file to the CD. If you image is large Ghost breaks the image into smaller pieces (I think it is around 2.5 gb each)

Now thats usful info but I'm not sure how to create a dos disk unless its one of the 4 startup disks explained in the MS booklet.
The ghostpe.exe file I've found the ghost.exe (664k)onmy mb cd including the oem Ghost but I didnt see the ghostpe.exe , could you explain how you did this.
To make a boot disk you can go to a Win98 machine and go Control Panel/Add Software/Make Startup Disk. If you don't have access to a Win98 machine use your Win2K system to make a basic boot disk.....Go Start/Run and then type format a: /s
this will format a floppy and install the system files on it so that it can boot. Then copy the ghostpe.exe file onto the floppy you just made. Reboot your system and you will end up at the a:\....just type ghostpe and ghost will strat and your can make your image.
