ohhh, if only I could fit 8 Palominos in one box....talk about some SERIOUS folding!
Yeah, I wouldn't even know how to boot the thing! The auction lists it as performing megaflops. That's not too fast, gigaflops being the unit of measure now. That must be a typo.
Wait, the reserve was met at 8,500$ It's got to be an old one.
Still a goody however.
yeah it is old but I believe you can use the SV1ex modules in it! I don't know how much that would cost but probably at least 10,000 each so 8x10,000+8,500 and you have a nice little Cray for 88,500!!! *cough* el dies while opening Credit Card bill.

Here is what it is
16 Processors
Overall peak performance: 3.2 Gigaflops
Main memory: 8 GBytes
Operating System: UNICOS
Joined Users: app. 1200
It is an air cooled machine using betwen 8 - 16 dec alpha chips.
It uses the Unicos OS witch relates to unix in the same way that linux does.

we need people to get jobs at Cray and then they can get new stuff free like TC and Wild_Andy_C.
I may go to tour the NCI supercomputing center when I get back from vacation. they have three 32SV proc machines working together for 96!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will see if they will let me drool on it.

popular science has a good one on blue leds and lasers as well
do you think the stone soup is something we could do
you know every one on this form has extra stuff laying around
im sure the oc teams would like to have it.
can folding or seti run in linux or unix?
I am pretty sure both can run on linux but I might try a little stone soup at my house. I only have 9machines but I will start with 3 adn then keep adding until all nine are working together.
