Hello can anyone help me with a problem please,I have a abit kt7e mainboard 200 fsb. and a 1.2 thunderbird 200fsb cpu
but the system will only run stable at 1000mhz cpu and 100 mhz bus speed.
I have 133 ram installed but when you select this in the bios at either the default or user defined settings the system locks up e.g select 1000 or 1200 running at 133 causes lock ups the reason it locks up is because the bus speed runs at 300 mhz and the pci runs at 75mhz when you try and select a 133 bus speed? I am fully aware of the multiplying factors needed to run the 1200 cpu at a 133 bus speed. It has been suggested that a AMD ATHLON THUNDER BIRD with a 200 fsb is the wrong cpu? eg would a 266 fsb cpu run on this board at 133 mhz? I have upgraded the bios to 3R.
I would really appreciate any bodys help
Thanks Dave..............

Sending this off to AMD CPUS.

The answer is that a 100mhz FSB is a 200mhz fsb in amd land. 133 is a 266 bus speed. It is just how they send stuff off to the ram or something that I don't totally understand.

Also have the KT7E mobo and had a similar time figuring out how to set the thing up...mistook the 100 and 133 that are in parentheses for RAM settings...needless to say my rig did not post when set at 133 as it is a 200FSB chip...ram was set up using the HostClk+PCIClk setting for the 200 FSB chip...If you set it at HostClk only, it will run your ram as PC100...That was my experience...Hope you get it squared away...;)

Dave, please don't post your questions more than once. It'll get plenty of useful responses if you post it once in the right place. :)

I had the KT7-E for about 2 months, and it was great with a Duron 800 @ 1.1 ghz (133 FSB) 2.05 v, Alpha cooled. Soon as I upgraded to a 1.33 Athlon at default speeds (133 fsb) it would randomly lock up after sitting for a long time. The KT7-E simply doesnt handle high end Athlons at 133 FSB too well. I have to say though, that motherboard was my favorite of all time...
