I just switched over from nt4 to 2k. I'm gonna break out the books soon, but theres a few things I noticed.

1) my drives are always shared and when I turn sharing off, if starts again when I restart.

2) remote access registry? I heard that mentioned, I want to stop that.

3) my scsi card required no drivers and my scsi drive stops spinning when its not used. This is great for me. My CPU's new temps are ~30c maximine load instead 0f ~35c and ~8-10c idle instead of ~12c and abou ~12c-19c during normal use.

If anyone can give me info/links on these points that would be great. Well its a bootable scsi card I have and it's bios starts up at boot-up. Well, I'm very pleased with 2k and so happy to finally get it. No more nt4 for me. Can't wait to start up my lan again and have some fun. I want to find an exploit for the default file sharing. I dont know if its just me but that stuff is fun to play with on your own lan.

Win2K does not have file and print sharing turned on by default and you have to configure each drive you want to share. I have 3 HDs and 2 CDs in my system and I only share 1 hd and 1 cd. Did you do an upgrade from NT4 and its using some of your old NT4 settings?

Win 2k/NT will share the c drive by default as C$. this is a hidden administrative share. Unless someone types \\machineName\c$ they cannot see this share, and even if they could, they would need your admin password.

I'm cool now, I saw they moved alot of stuff under "Computer Managment". Turned off remote access registry, but the drive sharing still won't turn off, nor will it let me change the default sharing name. Still C$.

I didn't upgrade from nt4 I did a full install. It wouldn't let me upgrade anyway. It said cannot upgrade with dual booting or something. (had both nt and 98 dual booted) All in all, I'm very very happy with win 2000. No more ****ty dual boot with 98 so I could use direct X apps.

sigh.... We'll my brother is sure to be picking up some more 2000 books soon. He recycles them to me after he read them. He's already MCSE, so he a s**t load of books, to bad he's useing his 2000 books he has though. Just left my with his nt4 books until he can master 2000.

Well, I might as well just buy my own books.

Well I'm only 16, no MCSE for me. I'm just basically a nerd that likes to know what I'm doing on my computer. Well hopefully it will pay off someday.
