chat programs disconnecting

i've been having some issues with trillian, xfire and irc, but not yahoo. at irregular intervals, i get disconnected and i'm lost as to why. i run spyware/adware removal programs regularly (adaware, spyware blaster, spybot s&d), and have run several online virus checkers. i also run zone alarm and the problem occurs with or without it running. also, i'm running xp pro.

any advice short of reinstallation would be appreciated. if i can't find a resolution, i will be reinstalling. thanks.

if your running bittorrent stop.

thats the main reason people get disconnected, their router can't handle all the concurretnt connections and just drops everything, and half the time it will freeze or restart, causing your connection loss

Yeah, lots of connections really brings a router down. Thats why I use a smoothwall. :D

Also I am not sure if highspeed conection still use it but make sure flowcontrol is on.

won't help if your running a torrent like protocol...

Also you might want to see if you have the latest fiormware for your router. I hvae seen that problem many times and updating the firmware can help in some cases.
