Hi fatshlink,
First of all you must check the Stepping Revision (Code Revison) of your chip, I suggest you Cpu-Z that you can found at http://www.cpuid.com/ and after look for a retailer that specify this info about the chips :)
About the difference about Coppermine's and Tulatin's, well, the first are made at 0.18micron, the second at 0.13micron and can have also a double cache (512Kbyte!) that greatly improves the performance.

Yes, make sure the stepping is the same. Do as Doors suggested.

Now here are some other things to consider...

Your operating system. Hopefully you are running Win2K, NT4, or XP Professional, or a Unix/Linux based system. If not, your @nd CPU is going to be useless and not supported.

If you are running 2000, you need to do one of two things to get 2000 to recognize your 2nd CPU. Either reload the entire system to ensure that the SMP kernel is installed, or do it manually.

Doing it manually isn't as hard as NT used to be when doing this. Go to your device manager. The first thing on the list is Computer. Update the driver for this. Select "Show all drivers". In that selection you will see Dual CPU system, or SMP compatible system. Select this and it will load the dual cpu kernel for your. Reboot, and your off and running.

Also make sure the voltage is the same for both chips. The VP-6 won't allow you to select different voltages for each CPU.

The VP-6 doesn't support Tualatins, so that isn't an issue.

If you have any other questions about this motherboard, just post in the Intel Motherboards section. There are quite a few of us here that run this board and we're more than willing to help.
