The only reason, and THE ONLY reason that you would not be able to Auto Run the Install in WinXP or boot from it, is that it is not a legit copy. All legit copies of Microsoft Operating Systems (from ME/2k and up) are bootable.

The boot order in the bios could also be wrong...the cdrom could be broken, the cable could have come unplugged...disc could be badly scratched...he could be putting a DVD install disc into a cdrom...plenty of other reasons.

Also you can't install SBS2003 on top of XP, it can only perform an upgrade of SBS2000, and server2000 or 2003.

NT4 is also bootable. I think its kind of funny that anyone would actually pirate SBS. Its like the b@stard child of the windows family. The one server for everything model is a tough one. SBS tries but with exchange, SQL, AD, and all of the other managers/wizards, its a beast and requires a bit of power to run.

i didnt even know they had a SB edition - i thought server 2003 had only come in Web / standard and enterprise / datacenter editions.

Actually there are a few other versions as well. 2003 storage server is the newest. I think they are replacing XP embedded with this version. I did some contracting for a company that used SBS 2000 and wow it sucks up resources. 100% memory, 100% processor all of the time and they were not using it for much either. Maybe 15 employees had computers and it was a pretty beefy server.

So that's why they were giving it away at the last Intel conference. Cheap bastages...
