what a complete waste of good money this investment was $400.00 bucks down the toilet!!! this is hands down the WORST video card ever !! while the graphics are ok the heat issue and lack of O/C'ing room (none at all) not to mention that this is the 3 rd one due to the things burnning up that I have ever had the missfortune to own!! I WILL NEVER STRAY FROM ATI EVER EVER EVER EVER AGAIN .NVIDIA YOU SUCK ASS !!!!!! :bang head :bang head

Probally.
My 6800GT and 6800U are the best cards that I have owned. Sure they run hot, and don't O/C well on stock cooling. Thats why there are other heatsinks out there.
You can't expect the world from a stock 6800GT, but it sure beats anything that ATI has offered for the same price.

Agree!
I've owned three 6800GTs, one is gainward 6800GT GS, one is gainward 6800GT GLH and leadtek 6800GT PCI-E..they OC well and not heat.
but ATI X800XL is a good choice aswell.

I would agree too as to I have 2 6800 gts a pny and a leadtek(currently being rma'd to newegg) it just died on me the pny on the other hand is fine I think the heatsink on my leadtek was bent slightly not allowing good contact.

Can you explain to us what exactly you are doing when you install these cards? Also what kind of case venilation do you have? Are you h20 cooled, air? How many case fans do you have? What kind of PSU?

Ok Fishy I propose a duel once I get my Dually system up and running. I say we clock our CPU's to the same speeds and see who can win the 3dmark battle. Your 6800GT or my x800pro. I would be willing to bet that my x800pro will take the crown :D.

Looks like a BFG card you have there, has great stock cooling.
Apparentelly your doing something wrong. Did you install the drivers correctelly? Use any type of driver cleaner before you installed the new drivers? What drivers do you have installed?
Personally I have a BFG 6800 (not GT), and I can O/C up to 400/975 with the stock cooler.
O yeah, and that speed is with all 16 pipes and shaders enabled, and hacked firmware.

Thermaltake, ugh . . . well your first mistake was the Tt cooler on your cpu but nevermind that. wtf is that thing under the card, some kind of PCI Fan or something? I don't even have that and I have the same case as you but I don't have problems with overheating . . . try reseating the heatsink with some AS5(try not to put it on the memory chips if you must) and let it run for about a day or so. BFG claims that they now use AS5 on all their cards but they don't, trust me. Also you could look at getting an aftermarket heatsink, such as a Zalman. The stock 'heatpipe' cooler on that thing is trash anyway. Sorry to hear about your bad experience. The 6800GT is still probably the best price vs. performance card out there in my opinion, even compared to an X800 Pro.

call it what you will but I have a friend in NEW MEXICO that bought one and had the same thing happen to him . I maybe ranting but when I spend 400 bucks for some thing I do not expect the dam thing to OVERHEAT and fail !!! call me old fasioned but I want my product to last and not have heat problems . I just think that BFG should be recalling there crapy card and giving the consurmer that pays for thies cards a new HSF setup to solve the problem , my friend had 2 of them do the same thing now he is back on his ATI 9800 pro he will NEVER buy another nVidia card again!! so call it what you will I feel riped off that is all.. and I have done every thing posibale to the extent of removing the side panel the dust had to be cleaned daily .. call it what you will this is no joke I think if they recall cars for a $20.00 dallor part then they should recall a $400.00 dallor video card !! that is all!
Ya I have followed the rants,I would suspect something other then 3 bad cards,And look at other issues. It could be you expect to much from the card ? I have yet to her ya complain about speed or picture quality ?
Also heat is an issue but the thermal abilities of the 6800 series cards is quite impressive.I have yet to have an issue with my heat on a stock heat sink and the BFG sinks do cool the GPU pretty well.Ramno but GPU ya.
Also it would help a lot if you said my 6800GT is hitting 120c in games or something to show others your issue is more then a rant or a means to flame on nVidia.

So, Does living in one part of the country make your video cards die faster? I don't see how thats important. Im sure its not 100 deg. in your house, so thats really a moot point.
2 People and 5 dead video cards seems like a lot to me. One of the two of you, or both of you is doing somehting seriously wrong. It really takes a lot to kill one of these cards. they can run up to around 115c before they even throttle. Try that with a R350/360. Heck crimedog has a 6800 that he knocked parts off of, and it still works, these are some of the toughest cards that I have seen.

I say recall them all and get some real cooling on them ! that is some thing that realy should be done . I am a gammer and I like the card for the graphics and all but wow 2 cards in less than one month . I play games on an average of 6 hours a day ( during the week) and about 10 weekend . just one thing where is the best cooler for this card ? and are they avalible from pc club , compusa , frys or best buy? I just don't want this to happen again and think that if I get a new cooling unit this may just help.

My friend has a 6800 and he says it is the best card he has ever owned.
I'll second that my BFG 6800 is without a doulbt the best card I have ever owned and it runs flawless.
With that said, I still prefer ATI cards, but this person rantings either are BS, or he has a secondary issue and I don't believe for one second that five 6800Gts are all defective running out of spec unless both this person and his friend are installing them wrong or have a secondary issue.
Not once has he told us what the 'high' temperature actually is at, nor what difficulties the cards are having aside from his claim of the card 'burnning up'.
Like I said, he is not here apparently to get any type of help, I tried and he just blurts out "I have nVidea! ". Whatever that means, my advise to him is to get an ATI card and move on since I believe his claims are a figment of his imagination since he cannot elaborate on the actual problem whatsoever.

Fried in Flames....Right.....
I am with PCGUY112887 on this one. I think your full of BS.
Number one, You cannot go past the 120c mark because your computer should auto shut down. At most the core will be burnt, but you will not see any sort of fire. The 6X series cards are made to withstand over 100c.
Two, The side of your case does not even have a window so how could you possibly know it fried in "Flames"?
Three, You have yet to show us a picture of your card that fried in "Flames." Also you have not list any temperatures of any kind, besides your BS saying it went "WAY PAST" the 120c mark. And what exactly would this temperature be? 60c? 70c? ;)
LOL, I edited the **** and ******** to simply read BS, although I agree with what you were saying and thinking, but we have to try to be nice, even to those that are trying to pull the wool over our eyes ;) -sss

Personally I think being a true fanboy is rather silly since most fanboy's will stick with a company even when they product they output is sub-par. That or they will completley jump ship as soon as there is a better product out, which makes them look stupid in the first place. Woshiping a company like it is a athlete just does not make any sense to me.

This mysterious, incredible phenomenon though was merely one stage in a whole cycle of transitions and equally inexplicable events that resulted in a thermo-electric process that transformed ordinary air into a super-biomagneto-kinetic force that opened a portal to an unknown dimension so powerful that it sucked out the life of two cards of an unsuspecting owner with a tower that has more fans than most cases in the world and another card of an owner who happened to be a friend within the blast radius!!!
