Time and time again, I see people on this forum saying, "Don't buy Thermaltake." But, I have used a few of their products and am very pleased. They make some great cases, and some decent power supplys, so why do so many people knock on TT? Lets have a discussion from both sides.

It's kinda like a Coke vs. Pepsi thing. I have never tried TT's products, though I wont bash them because I have no idea if their products are good or not. I see what your saying though. I'm sure some of the TT basher's have never tried their products either, it's just a matter of jumping on the bandwagon if you ask me.

I have NEVER used TT, but im gonna ***** about them anyway...

#1, MANY of their ideas are based off other companies ideas... they just add some flashy lights and gimmicks, and sell them... (kinda like false advertisement, but not bad enough)... they claim to be VERY effective cooling solutions, when there are better pre-made solutions out there, that are fairly easy to find

#2, thermaltake isn't pure crap... their PSU's are decent, and ive heard the smartfan II is pretty good too... the cases are cool... but most of their coolers (the volcano and the crystal orb are exceptions) are pretty down low compared to other brands...

TT has some very good products, and some that are just bling bling...
As I recall the Volcano 7 and 9 ware among the best socket A solutions while Thermalright products ware much more expensive.
Heatpipe 101 is a GREAT universal HS, its the basic design stolen from Thermalright but it comes with a mounting option for every socket out there.
Their product quality isn't the best but is more then enough for average user.

Like automobile dealers, Soda products (Pepsi/coke), Banks, etc. All companies get their ideas from others in one way or another. It would be like me bitching about Pepsi being better than Coke even though I had never taken a drink of Coke...same concept.

Give me some examples of this. Like the Pepsi vs Coke idea...its not stealing ideas unless they have a patent. Almost all products are based on other peoples ideas. Take the swiffer sweeper for example. Swiffer invented the sweeper, but now theres 5 other companies that sell rip offs so to speak. I guess what your a trying to say is that TT is more in the business of marketing, than the business of product research and development. So, I guess I see your point, but that doesnt mean TT products are junk or crap. It just means that Thermalright is better (which everyone already knows anyways) Oh and btw, there are many other companies who make flashier stuff than TT. And you know why, because there are people who buy that junk.

The problem many people have with thermaltake is that most of their products are coincidentally very similar to other companies' previously released products. I find no problem with this. It's part of competition; if someone makes a good product, they're not going to say "we won't make something like this that will earn us money." I have a TT Shark and I love it. It's very sturdy and it looks awesome. Their customer service is amazing as well.

exactly my point. they pretty much make ripoffs, which arent AS GOOD (i never said they were bad, if i did, its definately a mistake on me getting carried away) as the first company they ripped it off from...

they used to have some GREAT coolers (volcano 7/9, crystal orb)... and ive heard that the sonic/silent towers are good coolers, im just a ***** to use one of those and rip off my socket

edit: another thing... how did thermaltake (they changed to thermalrock, i believe) get the term "TR" copyrighted?? i always that that ThermalRight had that copyrighted

btw, im a coke person.. pepsi tastes very wierd...

The way I look at is if they have a rip off product, but it is cheaper and performs as good or better than their competitor I will buy it. For example their cases, I like a lot of their cases. Their PSU's, on Newegg they are some of the top sellers.

I like Coke better to. :)

I have a Tt SmartFan II on my SLK-947U cooling the chip in my sig and it does a great job. However, Thermaltake does make a lot of things that are overpriced and just made to look flashy so the "hardcore gamer" will think they are the $chiznat... Most of their cases are just really loud and gautty looking, most of thier heatsinks seem to suffer from a similar fate, and I have heard good and bad things about their PSU's so I can't really comment on that.

This is all just my opinion so I can't really post an article or screenshot for proof/evidence of my statements. Do with it what you want but just take it as a grain of salt...

i hate the Xazer cases, but the shark looks SWEET...

smartfans look good, i'd just get rid of that temp probe (thats why its called smartfan, right??)

I don't love TT, but i think they make some good products. Price for performance they are a great product. For the non hard core gamer that doesn't have to have top of the line, and just needs some decent parts TT is a great product to buy.

I think they have some of the best looking cases on the market (kinda a personal opinion), and they have so nice bling to there products for the cool factor.

It all depends on what type of computer you are trying to build, sometimes TT products will be good for you, but other times a higher quality product might be better.

They also have a PCI slot mounted rheostat (which is what I use) :)

thermaltake does'nt make terrible products or anything. they just have no originality. that's what puts them in most people's bad books. they are annoying if you ask me.

I went out on a limb and bought the TT Silent 775 for my new P4 and it turned out great. I know it's only one product, but just from this one, I would buy more from them. They get a thumbs up from me.

thermaltake seem to amke a few reasonable products (e.g.g cases & a few select items) however for the most part Tt's product line is the biggest case of plagiarism i've ever seen.

Having one of thier PSUs and one of those Bling blingy type coolers I am going to bash them.

First the PSUs pulling one apart and looking the Inards are the same for both the 420w and 480w PSUs. Second measuring between the 12v aux line, the 12v 20pin line, and the 12v molex line I got different answers for what my 12v line was, becuase in the molexs it was high but in the ones going into the mobo it was good. Which tells me something like maybe Thermaltake doesn't know anything about PSUs becuase maybe my HDs and fans are getting power before my CPU.

Second this Heatsink fan combo I bought Great blower fan (except at full speed its louder than a Vantec tornado) and almost the same HS as comes with a Retail Athlon XP. Between the HSs copper bottom plate and aluminum fins was extremely cheap paste that by just swapping it out for AS5 got me a 5°c drop in CPU tempature.

Then Thermaltake released a Radiator(it might of been a Bigwater) for for WC that was a multi pass design. Which any semi well researched water cooler can tell you doesn't work nearly as well as a single pass design.

So yes, I would say I have ok reasons to hate Thermaltake.

Thermaltake doesn't actually make their own PSU's, much like most other companies.

I'm OK with them, depending on what choice I have. For cooling, for 5 bucks more, I can usually get a thermalright cooler, which is a no-brainer.

A lot of heatsinks come with that cheap paste or tape, even the stock HS's come with that. It's up to the user to research and be smart enough to use AS5.

I had a volcano 12 and that cooler is STILL kicking around here somewhere, I remember I bent their clip so I could screw it to my 939 backing plate, the volcano 12 rode again

I have owned a few TT products...

A 480W PSU
a volcano 7+
a volcano 11+

and i can say i probably wont buy another of their products...the volcano 7+ was a decent cooler, quite loud but not bad @ the temps, the 11+ wasn't any better than the 7+ @ cooling as was just as loud if not louder. the PSU (which i still use today) is labled as quiet. bullcrap quiet. as soon as its got any loud on it @ all, the fans run full speed and its @ 48db. There are better products for a better price, thats why i wont buy any more Tt stuff.
