I have just put together a Athlon 1.4 with Gigabyte GA-7DXR motherboard. Before put the system through its paces I need to know what minimum and maximum temperatures I should be concerned about. At what temperature will the CPU get damaged? I am just using a Alpha PEP66T HSF.

You want to try shoot for 60 C at the absolute highest. Don't worry about a low temperature, for now, but you might want to invest in a better heatsink/fan like the much recommended SK-6. If you're getting temps in the 50s you're ok, but it's still bad. You want to be shooting for the mid 30s at best with air cooling.

Oh yes, and welcome to the addiction :p

I'd say that up to the high forties would be fine.
