View Full Version : What is your idle CPU Temp?

I was just wondering what some of the forum members idle CPU temps are. I do not use any watercooling and have not modded my case yet and my lowest idle temp was 34C. Opening the side of the case for a few minutes gave me 31C.

I am running on a ASUS CUSL2-C mobo and used Asus Tempster to monitor cpu temps (PIII and a Gorb). I am using a Lian-Li PC60USB case, even though I still have not attached the front USB ports to my mobo yet.:(

Also, if anyone can tell me of a good device that I can use to measure the ambient temps and vid card temps. From what I have read it sounds like some are using a 3rd party hardware device and running temp probes through their machines. Just curious.

I never gave a thought about cooling and airflow till I came here. I have said it before and will say it again... Overclockers.com Message Boards RULE! :D

Motherboard Monitor will work just fine. Measuring the temp of GPU's usually requires the use of a thermal probe, aka thermistor on a stick.

34C at idle ain't at all bad. If you want to OC your CPU, I suggest putting the GORB where it belongs(they make good conversation pieces, not HSF's) and installing a better HSF.

LOL

So I have heard the Gorb makes a better paperweight than a HSF. I have thought about replacing it, but the power supply is first to go. It is an old power supply and since I can spare the cash now I want to replace that now.

I forgot to mention in the post above what kind of HSF people have. I know 34C is not that bad, but it is not great by any means.

humm, according to MBM I am usually aroung 35C but according to my digidoc it is around 30c....not sure which to trust.

Go with the dig doc, cuz its using a thermo probe and not software.
also if you get a temp drop when you open your case, that tells you that you don't have enough air flowing through your case.
it would help you alot if you added a few intake and outtake fans.

My T-Bird 1.2 O/Ced to 1.37 iles at 25C!!!

Am I dumb for asking this... maybe, lets find out. I have an old powersupply... maybe 235W. If I replaced it with a 400W would that extra juice help in the fans rpm department? That power supply is running 2 HD, 1 Cd-RW, 1 dvd, and all the rest... including a GeForce3. Which I want to run that power connector for the gpu fan off a spare power supply cable. I need to free one up or get a connector for it.

Also, where can I find some info about the digidoc? Another Also, what do people think of Enermax power supplies?

I don't think it will help,
Cuz if you were pushin your PSU that hard your system would shut down.

but it could cool your system temp down some because the 400watt wouldn't have to work as hard.

34c arnt bad at all with my h20 rig I get 32c idle 38c load using mbm

Well some of you guys are using cpucool programms or your measureing you idle temps different then me.

MBM for every temp-
idle 36°C-37°C
surfing 38°C-40°C
load (1 hour of 3dmark2k or 2k1) 42°C

for the above temps , 1.85v core@default speed (1.2)

When I measure my idle temps I'm talking about a few minutes after I let my PC sit 37 right away 36 after maybe 4 min. If I let my PC sit for 15 min my screen saver comes on and my temps stay 36-37 but if I let my standby go into effect I'v seen room temp , 27°C.

Watercooling without radiator or evapourative cooler, just yet, idle is 34 C, after an hour of Wolfie it goes up to around 45 C, ambient stays around 30 C. Building my bong cooler this weekend, so hopefully I can lower temps, soon.

Ok I think I finally figured out how to posy screen shots. Yhis is after maybe 5 min , it wont go lower or atleat I dont think it will I usually go do something and when I come back to see the temps my screen saver is on but either way this is what I got.

Look at my sig..
I´m not using cooling programs, that´s just Windows doing nothing:D

Check out my sig,
I don't use any idle programs either....didn't see the need.
but with 2 comair rotrons, it does sound like jet!!!!!........a manly Jet:)

With my bong cooling my tbird 700@945 for a while, it will get to right above room temperature, aka, 20-21 C.

then again, I'm hardly ever at idle (f@h). Under full load I go between 32C and 36C, depending on the speed of the fan in my bong.

25c idle 35c full load

Stock Fan and HS: with 5 other case and HDD fans
37c-40c Idle
About 50c full load.
Weird thing is, it's got rock solid stability.

I stopped using any sort of cooling programs or hack after I did some before/after benchmarks.

CPUcool dropped my systems performance in every area except maybe cpu performance test I honestly didnt remmember the score with the programm intact.

866@948 (at least until i can get my fan holes cut) is idle at between 24 and 29 depending on the room tempeerature. load brings it p to mid 30's and benchmarking brings it over 50 once in a while.

with ambient temps of 25C my CPU will be 23C

A good HSF ducted, 2 case fans, rounded cables.
