I'm just curious as to how you all feel about the new physics engine.
Personally, I love it. It's much more realistic and allows for a more skilled approach focusing on controll, not just power.
However, I have some friends who can't stand the game based simply on the difficulty that the new physics engine posed to them.
Post up your comments. I just thought it'd be a good topic.

I sometimes drive one of my really crappy cars just so I can enjoy controlling the pitch foward and back. I did find there to be a big difficulty increase from the previous ones, however it was welcome and still not too hard. I mean, what fun is a race if you are not working at it. B-Spec is sooo nerve racking on close races.

Tell me bout it.
My fiance was laughing at me cause I was yelling at the TV...
"Pass him! Just brake late and nail him in the side! Come ON! you worthless Piece of SH**!"
it's about then that I take over and drive it myself and win by a few seconds... I find the computer doesn't drive aggressive enough against the other drivers. it will hit someone from behind vs. going to the inside of the turn, etc. I think the AI needs some gonads

i think the new physics engine is better than GT3 because i can powerslide where appropiate except in rally races where it would be great to power slide but i just go straight in to the wall AND WHATS WITH THE 5 SECCOND PENALTY CRAP!!??!?!?
still could be better
Im addicted to this Game on my holidays from Uni I played for at least 18hours a day for a week nearly the engine is sweet cars behave so differently to various adjustments and the fact tyres are a big part of the game this adds more to the game than i expected.
Im a veteran of GT1 and GT2 and it feels to me like that but with added extras car control and smoothness is a big part.
Im around 65% completed have all the licences and am looking forward to 3 24Hr races :)

i wish they made it for PC :( i hate that i have to break out my PS2 after not using it for almost 2 years. i dont even know where the thing is... but still i look forward to actually driving tha cars now. i stoped playing racing games because to me they were always so unrealistic but now im gonna make an exception

I didn't realise it was all that different. You mean just for driving?
EDIT: D'OH! Saw the 4 as an A for some reason. I do that a lot.
Last night on a UK tv channels Car show they had a review of GT4 with a former racing driver reviewing the game and the way the cars reacted, on track such as at Sarthe Le mans track along the straights.
If GT5 is made probably for the next gen of Playstation well it will be unreal if they continue on the way they are going.
The rally tracks can be a pain in controlling the car and the 5secs penalty prevents ppl from simply bashing through and easily winning.

If you were actually racing you would probably be set back a lot more than five seconds if you crashed into a wall.

I think that the physics engine isnt too bad. I mean, it could always be better, but thats what GT5 will be for :) .
As for the 5 second rule, I think that it is a good concept, but it has been implemented extremely poorly in the game. Lets say that you are coming in to a hard turn with your AI opponent behind you. You brake into the turn and your opponent rams into you from behind. The result is a 5 second penalty for you, and nothing for the AI cars. This needs to be addressed in GT5 and beyond.

no i mean i have been bumped from behind by the computer car and i still get the 5 seccond penalty

The physics are VASTLY improved over gt3. suspension modeling is much better. And medium and Highspeed physics are decent. But the fact that you cant do donuts exposes a big flaw in the physics.. Its still one of the most fun games ever, amazing graphics when you consider the hardware its running on.
I reccomend you all take the RUF CTR Yellowbird on the Nurburgring :)
Cars are a lot more sensative ingame then they are in real life. And the Driving force pro doesnt react anywhere near as quickly (Drifting !!!) as in real life. But its still an awsome game experience.
If you want a hardcore sim i reccomend RBR, GTR, and LFS for amazing physics and hyper realistic online competition. Live For Speed (www.liveforspeed.net) S2 Alpha public demo test just came out... but my PC is decommissioned so i havent got a chance to try out the new physics engine.

i've got a car faster than that though, havent had it there though
For the Nurburgring BMW M3 GTR DTM car :) its sweeet.
Only race i had a problem with is the World Championship in professional i needed The Toyota Minolta 88 car as the Mercedes CLK GTR was mince.
I tried GTR demo and couldnt get into it.

GTR is a true hardcore, they even have a clutch button... damnn. i have played Gran Turismo since the first came out but in term of engine physics i would say GTR still leads.
One thing i don't like about GT4 engine is the fact that when you hit wall at high speed, it will not send u up in the air... Everything else is fine, considering the hardware it is running on.

its not about speed, its about driving enjoyment. I have tuned Supra that can get around the ring with N2 tires in 7:30 seconds. and thats ignoring all the race cars i've won.
But the RUff is one of the most challenging cars to drive. its just fun how the car wants to be sideways allof the time.

Anyone have one of those $150 wheels that suposed to be so good with GT4?

I do :) Its awsome, but I'd only suggest buying it if you play lots of racing games for the PC also (RBR, LFS, GTR, NFSU2).. Its quite expensive but hella worth it. Unless you got 150 bucks to throw away, its quite alot to spend on one game. If you get that I'd suggest buying LFS S1+S2 also to satisfy your desire to race against other humans with more realistic physics. Plus it actually supports a clutch pedal. I just plug in two wheels and use the pedal from one of my wheel sets as a clutch. :santa:

I'm not too much a fan of it (GT4), thought I'm not a huge gamer anyway. For some reason I had a lot more fun playing against friends in Project Gotham for xbox.
But the LFS demo is pretty nice!

Don't worry, when you get married that will not change. My wife is more entertained by watching me play GT4 than by watching Seinfeld..........

That wheel is swwet and I almost got one, but can't spend that much on a PS2 wheel when GT would be the only game I use it for. I prefer my racing games on PC because wheels just don't work for me in a lazyboy.
What you say in the first sentence implies that you can use it for PC also though. Is that true? I thought it was strictly PS2?

Actually, the wheel in question (Logitech Driving Force Pro) works with PC games as well as with GT4. I have yet to get it myself, but I plan to in the near future.

yeah, new drivers specificly for the DFP have come out. and PC games deffinatly have better support for the wheel. with all the adjustable force feedback and lock.

I like gt4's physics better then gt3's. The 5 secound penalty makes the rally harder, but more fun I think.

I really like the new GT4 physics. The 5 second thing really ****es me off when it happens, but you know 90+% of the time you deserve it. It makes the game much more skill based and not power based.
Oh and talk about fun....
the nurburgring for the iA license test! That's a rush because you know if you go off you have to start all over! I've only completed it twice and got silver both times....I'm 10 seconds off gold though :(
Oh, and anyone have any advice on the test circuit races? Do you just have to draft the 2nd place card till almost the end? (only tried the skyline one).

I'll definitly have to get it then. Just curious if you need an adapter like for PS2 controllers or does it come with a USB plug?
Thanks guys, I'm really excited to hear that it works for PC also!

i stoped playing racing games because to me they were always so unrealistic but now im gonna make an exception
If you really want a realistic simulator for the PC try this:
http://www.10tacle.com/gtr-game/
Very realistic, takes a ton of practice and a good steering wheel. Has Night/Day/Dusk races plus rain/damage effects, and racing against over 40 cars at on time. Plus good online racing. Sweet adjustable cockpit views as well. A totally different game then GT4, but I recommend it.
Very realistic you have to monitor tire temps and let them warm up so you have more grip. And has a incredibly in depth monitoring tool called Motec Interperter which allows you to monitor your laps around the track in extreme detail, like speed through certain corners, what gear you are in, when you started braking, how hard you were braking and a ton more.
Plus a lot of custom stuff since its a PC game like custom car skins, new track s etc. Check out the sweet AMD 911 skin this guy made:

Ok enough raving about GTR :)

It should work with in-game and driver support straight out of the box.
As for the plug, it is a USB plug.

Definetly my favorite test so far. I think I was about 5 seconds or so off of gold time. S-16 was definetly much more challenging with the DTM Evo II. Still fun though.
