PCI modem in Linux?? I feel for you, really do. I had purchased one several months ago and never did get it to work. I hope for your sake, PCI modem driver development has gone a long way since then or you may well find yourself SOL. Try doing a google search for "both" Winmodems and Linmodem
Hack
I'd try Linmodems (http://www.linmodems.org/) first..
I got the drivers for a HSP56k pci modem there...the drivers work (had to update my kernel ...)
only problem now is that my isp uses some weird auth method that seems to only work for windows (AARGH!!!)
Yes, check out www.linmodems.org. There is also another site which I can;t remember. I got my Ambient HaM modem working in linux (whic, ironically, wont work in Windows ?!)

Another good resource for winmodems and linmodems, Winmodems are not Modems (http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html#Database) .
I'm using the Intel ham modem also. Had to install a driver though to get it to work in Linux. Works fine in Windows.
