I got an amd 1.2 on the core it looks like there was some blue looking stuff on the top right hand side, i put my heatsink on, and installed everything fired it up, and nothing. I took off the heat sink to find out there was a brown liquid type thing on my heatsink. I looked at the core and noticed the top edge was a bit rounded and a bit caved in. I'm pertty sure it's ruined. If you need a picture let me know. i can get a friend to take one. Thanks. oh also, i didn't use a shim, i was told it wasn't needed.

A brown liquid, ? that is bad, rounded edges and caves in...umm that is worse, 99% sure that the chip is toast. Not sure what u did, but next time still dont use a shim, and the blue stuffis ok, it is a coating for all chips, look at my signature pic and there is blue gel stuff (dried) on the upper part of the core

Any chance you used the standard thermal interface material that came with the heatsink? That's my only guess about the liquid. (Unless of course you have the JAVA stepping chip which typically requires at least one pot of coffee before booting succesfully. Maybe it spilled a bit and that's why it won't boot.)

Cave ins are never good but sometimes aren't fatal. Any chance you have a spare chip lying about that you can test the rest of the setup with?

The brown goop is an oil that comes out of the core when it over heats. Enjoy your new key fob! Time to look for an AYHJA.
