I had to RMA my hard drive, and finally got the new one back. And am attempting to install windows xp pro. I have a sata 120gb from WD, so when it boots to the CD, i hit F6, install the drivers (goes fine), choose to install, format, and then right before it starts copying everything. It tries to copy SIWINACC.SYS from my floppy drive (part of the si3112a driver zip file), and says the file can not be copied. It will not work at all. I tried formatting the disk, putting everything back onto it, trying different disks, all of that.

The same thing happens every time. Any ideas on how to get this fixed? Because if I skip the file, it copies everything and reboots. Then RIGHT after I put in my CD key, it pops up a box that says that file is missing. I tried to copy it directly off the floppy drive from there, but that didnt work. It says it should be in c:/windows/oemdir/ but when it tries to copy from that location, it doesnt work.

The only thing I can think of is to go to repair console, and copy the file from my floppy into the C drive into that directory.

Any other ideas? I need to get the old drive sent back ASAP, but cant until I get the new drive up and running (to pull my old stuff off). Thanks

Are you using a XP SP2 Slipstreamed disc?

no, i am not

actually, the first time i tried to reinstall, i tried with a SP2 slipstream cd (made with nlite), but after that, I have gone back to the real winxp pro cd. Does that matter?

Strange...
Because when I use my slipstreamed CD it won't work either. I made another slipstream CD that has a command line that allows non Windows Certified drivers, without that command line it won't work.

Try maybe another floppy drive.

Ok, I will try that later. but is it wierd that it will copy the drivers off of the floppy, and not this file?

I'd check the HDD with the WD diag. Just because it's new/recertified, doesn't mean that it's not defective. Another thing you can try is to set up the HDD before you install with the WD Datalifeguard tools. I've had a few WD's that wouldn't install without having used that first. I have no idea what causes this though.
