View Full Version : Gforce3 PROBLEM!

I just bought a Asus 8200 Deluxe (Gforce 3). This is supposed to be a great card, but if this is the way it is supposed to run... I don't want it! As an example I'll use 3DMark2001. Every game demo there looks like SH*T! All the textures suddenly become "see through"... and then revert to normal. Glitches can be seen all across the screen. I get a headache just by watching it. I suppose this isn't supposed to happen??
I installed this card the same way I do with all my cards. VERY carefully. Runs great in Win2k, all the appropriate drivers and utilities worked just great! Then, I get ready to try my card for the first time with 3DMark2001, and all hell breaks lose as my screen looks like a colourful slaughter house (slight exaggeration). I got a score of 5435 btw.
I'm running an ASUS A7M266 mobo with a 1,33 birdy @ 1,51. OCed with FSB ONLY. FSB currently at 151MHz. My temps on both CPU and GPU are just fine. Vcore: 1,85V VIO: 3,45V VIO1: 2,8V
WHAT IS WRONG?!

Beside 3D mark 2.1k, have you run any 3D games yet? How do they run in terms of graphics, smoothness, fps?

Quake 3 freezed everything up... thats the only game I have tried so far. Anyway, I tried decreasing the FSB, and the problem goes away. I have to turn it down a great deal thou, so my machine is like only running on 140 MHz FSB. Why is this? I thought The Gforce 3 could handle a bit of FSB? Could this problem be due to the fact that I have a very small PSU?
ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME!
Not sure but I have used my GF3 up to my system fsb limit 160 with no problems so I would doubt its the card itself.

Your motherboard might be screwing up the AGP transfer rates at higher fsb's. Also, install the Asus drivers, NOT the nVidia ones! And try reinstalling directx, while you're at it.

I had similiar sounding problems with 2 different ASUS v7700 deluxe cards. Maybe this will help! After trying all kinda of things i found that while running the included temparture monitor "SmartDoctor" it caused freezeups and weird colored lines on my screen. I either disabled the cooling features in it or just don't run it while using 3 games or 3dmark2001. And i do use the Nvidia drivers after concluding the weren't the problem . Hope that may be the problem for your V8200 because that is going to be my next card.

i dunno recommend to stick with the asus driver, so the new d4 has given me more bout 2000 points increase at 3D mark2001.
I had a similar sounding problem when I upgraded from a GF2 to a GF3. It turned out to be the AGP aperture size that was the problem, GF3's in many systems don't like the aperture set above 128Mb. Check yours and make sure it's 128 or 64Mb.
Failing that I would suspect your psu, how many watts is is rated at?

what they do is give some of you're RAM to the graphics card. This is good for crappy cards, don't need much now a days.
