After a hard month of no money and cpu bottlenecking, I welcomed my larger than usual paycheck. I couldnt decide to wait for the Palomino 1533Mhz or just get a 1.4Ghz TB at an all time low price. Thankfully, I found out I made the right decision after seen overclockers' front page stating that it would be a whopping $270!
Its funny though, I got the SK6 and almost cried at how tiny it was. Its almost half the size as my old thermoengine! But it sure did the job.
Scared myself installing it though. I got a massive shock seeing temps hit 70C in BIOS after 10 seconds of booting. The reason for this was the clip, which I had put on backwards somehow. Overclocking went quite well. I tried a lot of combos but found this result with the SK6 and 1.4Ghz...
10.5x133 (1400) 1.75 ... 46-48C ROCK STABLE
11.0x133 (1466) 1.75 ... 46-49C ROCK STABLE
11.5x133 (1533) 1.78 ... 47-50C ROCK STABLE
12.0x133 (1600) 1.85 ... 51-53C SLIGHTLY UNSTABLE
11.5x136 (1564) 1.80 ... 49-51C ROCK STABLE
As you can see, I am now running at 1564Mhz w/o any problems thankfully. Another benifit of the upgrade was the fact that I have now halved my sound levels. I had a 80mm Delta Screamer which pumped out well over 60dB all the time in my ear.
Got some good benchies out of my processor too. I would post them but I'm sure theres a good 100 of you guys with a rig that whoops mine to the ground.
Now for questions...
1...Do any of you guys have a 1.4 running at over 1.6Ghz using aircooling only?
2...What temps are you getting?
3...Anyone know how to mod a 80mm to fit on an SK6? I just want to see how it runs. If I only get 1-2C lower, I would keep the 60mm on.
Oh yeah, my temps might seem a little higher than usual because I have put AS2 on the thermal probe.
I would recommend an SK-6 to anyone thinking of buying a new hsf atm. Although its quite pricey, it gives good cooling power and looks great too.
