Give me an honest response, are you using a pirated version of the game, or did you actually buy it? I've heard some pirated versions hae problems.

Naw, you're right. I was planning on flaming the bejesus out of him when he says it is pirated. I already know it's pirated, because when you buy a retail game, you dont get problems. And if you DO get problems, you call the game comany's technical support, not some forum's members.

It could be a "backup of his original" right? My "backup of the original" runs great without a B.S. cracked .EXE file.! They usually do if you know what your doing (the right hardware can make a world of difference).:)

God, you idiots, games aren't released in perfect condition, everyone knows that, and if you've actually been gaming for any amount of time you would also know that tech-support takes forever to get back to you.
I had the same problem with my REAL version of Max Payne, so let me ask you, are you using Windows ME? I was running it on my laptop and I couldn't find any way to get around this. I thought it was either because of that or because my graphics card only has 8 megs, and somehow it was only detecting that after the game was shut down and then crashed. I think you just have to deal with it...that's what I did :|

I have almost 100 retail games, and I havn't ever had any problems with any of them due to software. EVER.

I also have 10 or 15 pirated games. And there are problems coming up all the time, from parts of the game they cut out to make the ZIP/RAR files smaller.

Therefore, software is not a problem when you have a retail game. Wether his problem is software or hardware is unknown, a black screen cam come from just about anything. And if it's happening at a certain point in the game, every time, that tells me there is something wrong with his version of the game, I.E., he downloaded an incomplete pirated version. I havn't had such a problem during any part of any of my games.

As a long time gamer I have seen alsorts of different quality in the programing of games....Some work so good and others seem to always need tweaking. The biggest trouble is the staggering amount of different hardware combinations that you can have in computers. That's why Nintendo/Playstation games have so little problems....Standard hardware configurations. Some game software is pure junk code and the end user is the beta tester.

I think that exiting the game is the best thing that you can do. This game is too hard to be fun. What is the learning curve? DAYS?

It sucks.

It's a shame you don't have a good video card, or mouse, or keyboard, or skills, or you'd say quite the opposite.

What are you, a 50 year old man just learning computers?

No Please DO go on.

1) He really did buy the game.
2) He tried tech support and couldnt get through
3) He lives in australia - overseas phone call
4) *I* told him to ask here.
5) Purchasing a CD is not a guarantee that it will work perfectly on any machine.

6) The code of conduct for these forums states that members should make sure new people should have a good experience with these forums. From what TDK said to me he was pretty ****ed that you guys acted like complete idiots and insulted him by saying that he pirated a CD because he was having problems.

You should be ashamed of yourselves. I thought that the overclocker community was about helping each other to work around problems associated with gaming/overclocking and help other, less experienced members to come up to speed.

Sadly, from what I see on this board, it is not the case. Not a single person answered his question. (BTW his problem is caused by his sound card and we are working on fixing it)

Even worse than that most replies were from experienced forum members (500 - 1000) posts who SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER.

Now I have to talk to TDK so that he can post in forums again. You know it was his first post, and it wasnt bad. Stated the problem and most of the hardware. Pretty good for a first post. Pity about the response.

Heres what I found on the 3drealms.com forums.

it could be your sound card (go figure) preventing you from exiting.
to fix:
Try running dxdiag.exe from your start menu
then select the sound tab
then drop the hardware acceleration down

alternatively it could be your gfx card
if the game tries to stuff too much data into the card then the game will freeze.

you could always post in the 3drealms.com forums. At least you might get a sensible answer.

Good luck!

i am thinking that it's his video card

because if you are then you might also run into problems

even using the ISO's/direct cd-copying the quality of home cdrw's and of most of the cd's (icky PNY's...) are pretty crappy and easily corruptable

if you want to make *ahemm...* back up cd copies...make sure to use a good burner and some good quality discs (platinum?...not much more expensive...at least not here)

some burners like some disks more than others too, i've found...so just find that sweet spot and don't use crap :)

Note: PNY's by themself copy fine and such....if your treat them right they'll last a while

but i've found that they're so thin that if you scratch them or write on the surface more than softly with say...a bic....then you're files are going out the window since these things are pretty fragile...
