i have a couple of questions about my 6600gt(agp). im kinda disapointed with my 6600gt overclocking results, i get artifacts @550core, is this the limit of the card or can better cooling eliminate artifacting?

i was also wondering if it is possible to bios mod the card to get a like a modest 10% voltage increase on the core and memory.

my last question is how good is the zalman 700cu cooler which is known to fit this card? will it handle vmods? can you use the ramsinks on a 6600gt agp?

Vmodding the 6600GT's has not yielded much in way of extra performance unless steps are taken to cool it properly first.
The best cooling option would be a STASIS IceStorm (*my unbiased...cough...opinion) as it both actively cools the GPU and the RAM, and is custom designed for the 6600GT AGP. A better HSI heatsink also helps the AGP board overclock higher.
The Zalman is a good heatsink as well, but is not very well suited for the 6600GT. The included ramsinks will not work without modifacation, and even Zalman warns of the risk the added shift in weight poses.

My 6600GT AGP is runnning at 630/1238 on stock voltage with an IceStorm NV43AGP and HSI heatsink. I considered trying more voltage but after hitting the ceiling with stock voltages I decided to leave things alone. :)

ill second the stasis icestorm recommendation for a cooler. its the best cooler ive ever bought. it keeps my 6600gt AGP at a cool 55ºC, as5 hasnt cured yet, versus stock which would hit 71-2ºC often. i liek mine soo much i might buy the hsi sink too. depending on how much cash i can scrownge up :D

ps: making this a true post, vmodding for the 6600gt's doesnt do much, it wont raise your overclock a huge ammount. whats your temps right now? cause that could be holding you back

yeah hell on stock cooling i run mine at 555/1.17 it defaults to 585/1.17 and i do all my benchmarking at 585/1.2 and it runs at about 54 and full load at like 62 so i am not that worried about it yet

My guess is that Zalman 700 CU would allow you to get more overclocking ablility out of your card before artifacts. I would Highly recommend that, or if your DYI, make a better heatsink for around $10. Can't beat the price and the results.

Holy crap!!! my card loads at 88c...stock! it should never have been oc'ed! i gotta find a way to cool down my room. ne way i realize that the icestorm is by far the best cooler for this card, but its a little pricey and i live in canada so shipping would cost lots too, but then again, if a have to mod the zalman, its the better choice.

as for making my own, i would love too but i really have no idea how though. do you have any guides handy?

I might be able to create one later on tonight. I just saw a picture of one done and copied the idea. I have some pictures on what I did in my signature. Click on my graphics card link.

Considering how many 6600GT's died because of burnt out power converters that were on stock voltage i'd say vmodding a 6600GT is just insane. Those power converters seem to be running on the edge allready.
