View Full Version : Best dual monitor card?
I'm trying to put together a system for a freind of mine. He has two 17" monitors, they are the top-of-the-line Sony VAIO models. Eventually he'll be upgradeing to two 19" VAIOs. He basically needs the sharpest, best picture he can get, as he'll be doing web development ,some basic programming, and Photoshop stuff on them all day. 3D acceleration is not at all important for this guy.
SO far we've looked at the ATI dualhead VE cards, and that's about all we can find. I haven't used an ATI product since the Rage 128, so I'm at a loss here to reccommend anything.
Anybody have any ideas? BTW price is really not a problem for this guy-

yep. G550 would be a very affordable choice
thanks, but- any reason why? I had a Matrox G100 back in the day, wasn't too impressed.
Also, he couldn't care less about if it's affordable or not. He just wants the best. Oh yes, now he says that he wouldn't mind VIVO either. But that's not imperative.

One of my friends runs a Geforce 2 MX dualhead setup and it looks great...the Matrox cards are good for picture quality and extras, but you probably want to get an MX if he wants 3D, too. More rumors about a GeForce 3 MX, might want to check it they're true and see if they're going to make a Dualhead card...

go the matrox g400/450/550
all of these cards offer the best 2d and 3d clarity
and since 3 acceleration is not important
these cards will suit u well
these are the clearest outputs ive seen on a standard video card
and with two good monitors like u have there
will look brilliant
:)
hmmm, some good suggestions... but I'm looking more in the $300 to $400 dollar range. Like the Geforce3 of 2D is what I need. The guy had a G400 and hated it to death. I don't know why, some kind of driver issues. He's not a patient guy, he wants it to work the first time and that's that- I tell him he's in the wrong business!:D
Dualhead MX is totally out of the question, too much of a cheapo card. MX3 or not, it's designed to be a budget card if it says MX on it. Good idea tho.
GRRR I told him this would be hard... Are there any high end 2D workstation cards out there? Maybe I should just slip him a G550, and call it a day.
Wasn't there supposed to be a G800 at some point? Now he wants VIVO for sure, as well as a DVI connector for LCD screens if possible. If he wasn't paying me for this I'd kick him in the junk:D
Ok, I'm gonna look at the G550, if it can do 1280X1024 at 120hz then I'm sold.

I'm the same way man, I had never even heard of those high-end cards till Zuck linked 'em. High end for me means Geforce3, that's all I know! I was gonna follow yours and genis' advice till I showed my freind that link and he started drooling!:)
