You know when you're almost done writing a post and your browser somehow gets refreshed or goes back or something so everything you wrote gets erased? Yeah, I just had one of those. So I'll make this brief. In outline...

1 Did a clearRTC
2 Comp started acting wierd/slow/wouldn't get into windows
3 Flashed from BIOS 1004 to 1006, both final
4 more/worse problems: no network connection, no safe mode
5 deleted ntuser.dat file from "documents and settings\my user name" folder
6 flashed back to 1004
7 less, but similar problems: no network connection, startup progs (ie powerstrip, mcafee, etc) don't start to load until 5 min after it gets into windows, title bar for all windows is very small, etc

One thing I noticed was that if I hit ctr-alt-del as I get into windows (after user selection screen) and go to the users tab in the task manager, I don't see my user name for 5 min or so. as soon as I do, the startup prgrams begin to load and things kinda go back to normal, in terms of responsiveness, but until then, its very unresponsive. Even after, I still get no network (have tried run -> ipconfig /release (tells me it already is released) -> ipconfig /renew (error messeage is something about RPC not being active), no luck), no background, wierd title bar, etc.

I had some similar problems and I ended up formatting and reinstalling. Might not be an option for you, but mines working for 3 weeks perfect lately.

OK, fixed some problems: I repaired windows from the setup CD...now I have to reinstall SP2 and all that (I really need to get around to making that slipstream CD). The title bar is still really small and I can't change the background, but most everything else seems to be OK.

Heres a brief list of problems:

Can't change the background
Can't change the title bar size (its about 1/2 the size of the cursor)
Can't close/minimaize the language bar
Toolbars don't stay after reboot/log off
fave menu in IE dosen't stay open after you close the window (firefox is fine)
cookies don't seem to work
various settings don't hold after closing the windows (can't view hidden folders, protected OS files, etc)
Can't download from IE (firefox is fine)
Can't change registry settings (programs won't install)

Just a ton of little things that add up to one big agravating problem

HELP!!!

you might try the windows repair where it reinstall windows over the old windows
no garantee . if that doesn't work you will have to reinstall you may have already done that i was not sure by what you said.

I did do a repair, but that didn't help much. I eventually just reinstalled windows.
