I just put together my first AMD system a few days ago. My question is whether I have to run my T-bird 1.4 at 133Mhz FSB or 100Mhz FSB. The bios loads with the default CPU at 1050/100. When I switch the BIOS to run the CPU at 1400/100, it reboots with the default settings. However running it at 1400/133 works fine. Sound good? I plan on doing some overclocking when I get a better heatsink and hook up some good cooling, but for now I just want to get the idea about FSB, voltages, and multipliers. Thanks

Yeah if you have pc 133 ram run it at 133 FSB or more if you want to overclock

It would be a good idea to give us the specs on your system; mb, ram, etc...

The only point that's crucial to remember about "Athlon's," whether they're named Durons or T-Birds or "Classic" is that they are CPU's that run H-O-T.

One of today's articles on the Front Page states that Thunderbirds that run at 1.4 Gigs broadcast 99 Watts of heat. If you've ever "shaken hands" with a 100 Watt incandescent light bulb... The light bulb is hotter than 100 Watts, of course. In our charmingly wasteful way of using electric power... you get the idea.

Athlons self destruct in 14 seconds if they have no heat sink. The volume of air that moves through your case is critical to the health of your processor. And everything else inside the box. Sheesh, I sound like a zealot. PIII's are freezers compared to T-Birds. No lie.

the athlon 1.4 should be running on a 133mhz bus by default
i dont think there are any cpus that fast made to use the 100mhz bus

either way,it should be run at 133mhz
it will be faster too

Just to clear things up. The higher end Athlons come in two forms, using the 1.4 as an example. You get a 1.4 266 chip and a 1.4 200 chip. The 1.4 266 runs with a 133mhz fsb and the 1.4 200 runs with a 100mhz fsb.

You should have a jumper/bios setting that lets you change between 100/133.
