I've seen several threads here about overclocking problems with Abit TH7-II mobos. Either my CPU is just burned in, or I've found the solution. I have a P4 1.7 Ghz and now that I set the "Differential current" setting in the BIOS to 7x, it is stable at 2005 Mhz. The core voltage is set to 2 V. but both the bios and Windows-based monitoring programs indicate about 1.87 V.
I'd like to know if the same thing works for others.
Yes it did :D . I have a 1.7 Ghz P4 cpu, and a TH7-II-raid, that I just put together yesterday. It's running stable now at 110 Mhz fsb, i.e. 1870 Mhz. Cpu voltage is set at 1.9v in bios, but hardware monitor and the bios both reports 1.74-1.76v. I was having some weird problems with reboots at 110 Mhz fsb, just like you described (it really does sound like a firetruck). Strangely cold boot worked everytime. I was close to giving up on o/c'ing the board for now, but the 7x setting did the trick  I'm gonna try for the 2 Ghz mark soon, but right now I'm heading out. I'll be back.
Oh, if anybody thinks of installing this MB on an existing win98 HD. don't EVEN think about it. Do a clean install :p

I'm having some sucess as well. I'm able to run a 122 FSB without any trouble. I can post at 133, but I get the dreaded BSOD! Here's a Sandra shot.

Wow, now that's a NICE score  Meanwhile I figured out that messing with the differential current wasn't such a good idea at all. I had to clear the CMOS with the jumper to get it started after having had it turned off for a few minutes. Now I've found that the "Fix" setting for agp/pci seems to be the troublemaker. I'm now at 1955 Mhz with my 1.7 and it's at 1.9v (even if hardware monitor does show 1.74 ). GF3 still stable with agp4x and fastwrites, and agp is at 2/3 and pci at 38.??. Memory benches are awesome too. Only problem is I don't dare turn it off again :( My good old Asus P3B-F was never this quirky to tweak.

That chip puts out some heat and will throttle down if it overtemps. It doesn't BSOD like PIII and when it locks up don't immediately shut it down. It will continue operation by itself once it cools down. That will be your indication that your cooling solution is not good enough for the speed you're trying to run.

Thanks. I'm very much aware of the throttle'ing, and that's why I "take it up" very slowly :) So far 1955 Mhz has been stable for 9 hours of testing and 3dmark scores hasn't gone down yet. But I will get a better cooler as soon as either Swiftech or Alpha decides to make one for socket 478. Need I say I can't wait. I think this Costa Rica'n chip is pretty good. HW monitor is showing 1.84v @ 1955 Mhz and full load cpu temp is around 55-60°c (~130°+F ouch). Is this normal for P4's? I mean my 3dmark2001 score is 8100+ at default settings, and trainsim runs smoother than ever, so I'm pretty sure it doesn't throttle. It's just that coming from a PIII coppermine with an Alpha cooler, I'm not used to these temperature levels. The MB is also getting quite warm. Oh well. Tomorrow I'm gonna try for 2 Ghz+, after all I "only" need another measly 3 Mhz on the fsb. Be right back :D
