View Full Version : Just a thought
Why did you start folding? Why are there so many folders that have stopped folding?
Answer those questions and come up with very real solutions and we may be able to get the team back on track. Just a thought.

I started folding as a fun competition... but now do it for something more important.
i'll let ya know what that important thing is as soon as these darned hydrocodones wear off. i might remember then
I started folding because of WW3. So I might as well say I owe something to fishy and Maxvla for that one. I continued folding because I feel like with every WU I fold, somebody out there benefits from it.
People stop folding for numerous reasons. I think the main thing lies in the "It's only for points" excuse. Quit kidding yourself. F@H is for science, with a competitive aspect that makes people want to do it.

I fold for the points, the science, and the fact that the FaH forum crew are one of the coolest groups of people on teh intarwebnets :)

Just to do my bit, almost like giving to a charity, i probably look at my stats once a every 2 weeks to a month, just to make sure borgs are ok.
I think a lot of recent clients were folding for WW4, and after that ended, they didn't feel a connection with the rest of the folding team/project, so they uninstalled their clients and didn't look back. If they don't have a reason to stay, they won't.
I guess we're good with the initial plug, but we gotta work on our follow-through?
Why bother to uninstall it? If it is not hurting anything then why bother. After all, one is helping mankind as a whole and not even noticing it. Gotta tell ya, I am sure windows runs a few things I really don't need but I don't bother to ferret them out so why do they stop folding?
Come on guys, why did you start folding?

I started folding for a cure and to help. I left my computer on 24/7 anyway. I got hooked on the points. I pulled alot of junk out, dusted it off, and plugged it in.
We need leadership, contests, prizes and front page from overclockers.com to get new members. We have none.
i started cause I want to help science, and also the team. The points/competition part of it adds alot of fun. I really hate how u see pages and pages of people that folded for us that havent in forever. I dont think ill ever stop folding unless the program gets shutdown or something.

To put to use a pile of old celery 500 computers...
No really I knew about folding for a long time, and I should have started a long time ago. I think it was after the front page story about Nedclockers wife passing from cancer that I put some thought into it. I guess before that I thought It was more of a contest but now I see the greater good for humanity that comes from folding.
So FOLD ON!

I fold for the points, the fun, the trash. I fold cause Im a old oc'er that calls this place home. Im not a gamer, I dont code anymore >>> thats a younger mans game now :). I like the distro idea. I enjoyed seti but they are going away that I thinks a waiste of my time and machines. So I came over here and setup. I like ploaf, spee, and many others Ive met in other places ( chat ). If theres reseach that needs to done, well I guess thats a side benny for someone. But dosent do a thing for me. I fold to remember my buddy Doug Taylor that died of cancer way to young. I fold for my grandfather M.C. Townsley that showed me so much about manhood. I fold for Coline Pickering, a great lady that lost a 2.5 year battle with cancer. One of the best peeps Ive ever met in my life. I fold for Roney Gatlin, my x-wifes brother, taken by aids, my cousin Bruce who fell with aids. For my crazy x-wife lost to the insanity that comes with bi-poler, split personaltys and manic. She died hard. Maybe just maybe damit,, maybe it will do some good. Do i fold for the sci? No I fold for humanity and truthfuly there isnt much of that left. Its alot of fun to beat the snot out of a puter at the system level and watch it work its self near to death as a oc'er.
JUST DO IT!!!

I'm good with that. Yeah, I'm good with that and all the reasons given so far. We need more so post them here guys, why are you folding? If it is for the points then state it. If it is for yourself then tell us. If it is in memory of someone then let us know.
I carried my frail Aunt to the bathroom every day and every day she cried in my arms in pain. I could not carry her softly enough to keep the pain away. Cancer was eating her insides while she was alive. I felt so helpless and frustrated. I was really trying to be as tender as I could, to no avail. I was 22 years old or so. I am folding, but not for her, for me. God, don;t let this happen to me.
That's one from me. Now, why do you fold? Then we will figure out why they are not folding. Their reasons are every bit as valid though we may find that much can be done to correct this. That is later, why do you fold?

Luckily, I haven't lost anyone to the diseases that this will benefit. For that, I am thankful. I like putting computers together. I like thinking I am part of something larger than myself. I like doing something that has no way it can be warped into a negative; you just can't but a bad spin on Folding. How many things in life can you say that about? You put all of that together and it is the only logical thing to do. I have said this before, and I will say it again: I could give you a million and one reasons to Fold, but I can't for the life of me I can't think of one not to.

Initially I was folding for the points and the stats... now the novelty has passed on, and last week so did one of my aunts in a fatal battle with malignant melanoma (sp?). So now i fold for the science and potential of a successful treatment...

I fold because my 4 year old daughter has a rare protein disorder known as mild hyperphenylalaninemia (PKU).

I fold because my computer is on all the time anyways so I might as well not let it go to waste I mean I need a constant heat source to make sure my Heatsink and thermal paste isnt going to no use.
I'm glad that the birth center where she was born did the PKU testing, and that it's the mild form.

I fold for the science and eventually the cure. I started back in 2002 on my work computers for a team I created for the place where I worked. Now, I fold for my own website(s) team and we're doing good! I'm addicted,.

Yes, I grew up in a med family, did bio in college, so I know a little about PKU. I remember one of my biochem profs talking about how PKU testing was very easy and inexpensive, yet makes a world of a difference. I can only imagine how you felt when you received that phone call, and I'm really very glad they caught it when they did.

I fold because for nearly the same reasons as psyshack, Just change the names. I Fold because it has been a personal conviction, Too many people in my family to name have had cancer, Same for the wife as well.
I also fold because its cool to think that my computers are sort of a part of the largest cluster computer in the world.
I fold because my 4 year old daughter has a rare protein disorder known as mild hyperphenylalaninemia (PKU).

Yes. BTW, my daughter (Stella) is perfectly fine and normal, she has a very mild form of the dissorder and by all accounts is a happy healthy 4 year old.
We need leadership, contests, prizes and front page from overclockers.com to get new members. We have none.
Leadership - trying to get this sorted out as most people know. Once we know what positions we are wanting filled, we will setup nominations and votes, I think.
Prizes - no reply from Newegg or OCZ and I dont think MLMIB had any luck either with other people :(
Front page pimpage - Ed and Joe have more or less blatantly ignored the past few times they have been emailed frontpage articles. From me, seadave, and I think IMOG as well.

I started folding because it was for a good cause. I kept folding because it has a fun compitition aspect. I quit once because of rl crap.
