Hello,

Its been a long time since I've visited these forums. Kinda been out of the computer scene for a while. Anyways, I'm looking to upgrade my video card for the last time. Basically I want to max out my current system. Price isn't an issue. Please give your recommendations. :)

Thank you,

P.S. My system:

2400+ @ 2.11 GHz
Abit KG7
GF4 ti4200
1GB RAM
400W Sparkle PSU

6600GT AGP eats the 9800pro or xt as a light snack

x800XT PE
6800 Ultra
6800GT
X800 PRO

In order of preference

a 6600gt would be more than enough for that 2400+. I do not think you would see much gain with a x800xt pe and your nf2 and THAT card is some $$$$$$. If you want to spend that kind of money why not just get A64...

To be honest I think anything more than a 6600GT would be overkill for that machine. Even a 9600 or 9800 should do fine.

What kind of games are you playing?

I would 2nd that 6600GT. I have this BFG 6800 OC w/ the pipes and shaders unlocked and i think it is being bottlenecked by my 2500+ barton at 2.35ghz.

So go with the 6600GT. Unless you plan on upgrading the whole system anytime soon.

Thank you for your responses.

I like playing CS: Source and racing/driving simulator games. Also any type of FPS w/ a WW2 setting.

Seems like the 6600gt is the way to go. I forgot about the whole slow system bottlenecks the fast card thing. If I remember right, you basically get diminishing returns with faster cards?

Yep, eventually as you upgrade the card to a faster and faster one you will get to the point where the card is no longer the bottleneck.

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about, sure the cpu will have its bottlenecks, but those are still WAAYY up in the fps, ussually over a hundred. I am running a 2.0GHz Xeon with a modded 6800 vanilla, and I got 10,921 on 3Dmark03 and 4853 on 05, thats a lot better than a 9800pro and the 6600GT.

Those are video card benches. Not real life gaming. ;)
