I'm wondering what all the steppings you guys know of on the LGA-775 550 chips. Also, which is good and which should i stay away from? Or try to anyway. :p

I and a couple of buddies had that proc. The stepping didn't matter. What mattered was making sure you don't get one form China. All the ones from China sux.

Does that include the 6xx series too because I have a 640 from China that doesn't suck at all.

Can't answer that for your. Guess you've got a good one. We were having trouble with the first batches of the 5xx proc. The ones frim China back then were not very good. Didn't OC very high and took a lot of voltage to get them OCd. The 6xx series are a different proc.

Oh ok, wasn't sure if it carried over or not to the 6xx series. I've been able to get 4.1GHz out of my 640 on air cooling so I guess its not too bad.

I dont know about the 550 chips, but I do know that some of the latest batches of the 530Js are O/Cing like crazy.

here's what my 3.0 530J is running at on quiet air cooling (with 1.51vcore):

-so far I've boughten 3 of the same chips and all three of them are easily running 4Ghz.
