I am trying to test out my fan controller (Sunbeam Rheobus) but I'm having a slight problem. How do I engage the powersupply without connecting it to the motherboard? I dont want to connect it to my motherboard yet because I'm still waiting for some components to arrive (Venice CPU and video card). I want to test out my fans to see how much air they move but I can't seem to get my powersupply to work. Does it have to be plugged into the motherboard and then engaged w/ the switch (on case or MB) in order to work? If so, will I hurt anything by plugging it into a motherboard w/ no CPU or RAM connected?

Components:
OCZ Powerstream 520W power supply
DFI NF4 Ultra-D Motherboard
Sunbeam Rheobus
Stock coolermaster stacker 120mm fans

Well I found an old motherboard kicking around and connected the power supply to it to test out my fan controller. Everything works beautifully. Still curious as to how to get the power supply to engage without having to connect it to the motherboard tho... anybody have any insight?

To turn on a psu without using a motherboard you connect the green wire to one of the black ones using a staple or piece of wire
