I changed my write recovery time in my bios from auto to 1T and gained 9 points in 3Dmark2001. I rebooted and followed the exact procedure to ensure accurate and consistent test scores. Anybody else tried this??

3DMark's scores can err up or down, sometimes as much as 500 points.
I'm afraid you didn't get any gains. =(
It just happened to shot you that plus 9 points x ammount of times, convincing you your change made a difference.

My 3DMark's have never varied more than 5 points, ever. I tested and retested and every single time the score averaged a 9 point gain. Before making the change in the write recovery time my score stayed within a very consistent 1-3 point range. Again, my scores have never wondered outside that 5 point range, let alone 50 points.
The chances of it randomly erring on the 9 point plus side JUST after making the write adjustments EVERY single time it was tested would be astronomical.:)

yes, but ask yourself, in a real life situation 9 points equates to what......0002 fps increase?

I'm not trying to flame you, but you're gonna tell me that if you've been running your computer all night, playing Quake 3, or whatever your game of choice is, and did a 3DMark benchmark, that number would match up perfectly with the numbers you would get right after an all night cold boot startup?
Don't mean to be an ass, but NO, they would not match up, within 9 points, or 20 points. By the way, that was a typo down there, I meant to say 500.

Why would I do a 3D benchmark right after gaming??????????? I'm not an idiot:rolleyes:
All the tests were done on a cold boot up...EACH TEST :D
Besides, any gain when it comes to overclocking is a big gain...:p
No need to be hypercritical, I'm simply sharing my results to whomever may be interested in doing the same. This is an overclockers forum, correct?

Okay, okay, you did it right. I'm just saying there can be a huge margin of error. People are always saying the results are inconsistant.

That's strange. The test has always been very consistent with me. Maybe they're not testing on a cold boot?;)

Could be. You'd be surprised how foolish some people can be (Such as people plugging PCI cards into ISA slots, and AGP cards into PCI slots--that DOES happen).
