I'm looking for front plates for the following:
Plexwriter PX1210 scsi
Plextor Ultraplex 40max
Zip250mb
I need the fronts because I want copies made out of aluminum to fit my Lian-Li case (Yes, I found someone who can do it for me, but he needs original fronts to make copies off....) I can't (won't ) use my own fronts as a 'source' because they could get damaged in the process and the equipment is still under warranty (is that the correct word?)
So where can I find/buy/order the plastic fronts?
Any mail-order or parts shop maybe?
Just wondering,
Chris
P.S. Got my 2nd star today, drinks are on me :p

I don't think you can buy things like that. Those are proprietary parts, and the respective companies (Iomega, Plextor) would want you to send the drive in to get them repaired, but I doubt they would send you the part to change yourself.
I suggest you just sacrafice your drive faces. If you're going to get a new aluminum ones anyway, what's the problem? Who cares if they get damaged, you'll have aluminum ones to take their places. If the aluminum replacments are milled improperly because the originals cracked, or bent slightly, you can just file the aluminum down to specs.

The problem is that these periphs are brand new and still under warranty(?) ...So, if i.e. my cd-burner would break down for whatever reason, and I would send it in with a damaged front end from being stuck in an cnc copy machine, all warranty would be void..So, either I have to find duplicates, or wait 3 years to have it done, as the store where i bought the setup gives me a 3yr full waranty on the setup.

Well I'll tell you a way around that.
If something goes wrong with any of your drives (Or any hardware, or ANYTHING for that matter, even vacuum cleaners, TVs,e tc), you go to the store, and purchase an identical model.
When you get home, remove the damaged item from it's case, and exchange the innards with that of the new one. Then you'll still have your old case, with new innards.
Simply take the old innards in the new box back to the store, and get your money back for it.
That way, you have a new piece of equipment, and you dont have to worry about the item's casing looking scuffed, as it will be in the brand new case.
Can you understand that? I don't think I described it very well, if you don't understand, tell me.

Well, i understand your way of thinking...but if we break this down to the basics, it would mean that i would have to buy a brand new item, in order to get another one repaired for free...now that doesn't seem very wise, financially.. Of course i could then sell the new one, but i would undoubtedly loose money in this..Basically, it comes down to buying an extra device so I can risk damaging the other one...
And then there's the fact that when I buy a new device here, the dealer sends a copy of the receipt, WITH THE SERIAL NUMBER ON IT to the manufacturer to validate my warranty.. So swapping innards would be impossible, apart from being ...illegal? besides, if something breaks down here, the shop doesn't give you your money back, they replace the item or, in most cases, send it to the manufacturer for repairs... And they are likely to notice if you send them and older model in a newer box, even if they don't check the s/n
And of course, last but not least, this is illegal...fraud?

Well it being illegal is hardly a reason not to do it. There aren't any trackable serial numbers, the vendor would merely return it to the manufacturer, who would in turn take the cost of the item.
Thinking further ahead, I realized it wouldn't work in your case. If the faceplates were mangled, the vendor would hardly take them back. You'd be liable to hear something along the lines of "What did you do to this thing, back over it in your truck?"
You can still do it to other things that break though. You purchase an identical item to the broken one, take the new one out of it's box, not the case, then put the old one back into the new one's box (After cleaning it up to look new on the outside), then take it back to the store you bought the new one at, and get your money back. You end up with a brand new item, and the store will return the broken one back to the manufacturer.

...maybe not for Boba-Fett, but for me it is....I walk on the light side of the force...
fraud leads to anger
anger leads to hate
hate leads to suffering

Actually, Boba Fett isn't a bad guy. He's a man of SERIOUS morals. He does bounty hunting to bring evildoers to justice.
He was once Jaster Mereel, Journeyman Protector, as Darth Vader used to be Anakin Skywalker. You don't get to be a Journeyman Protector for nothing, y'know. It takes complete and total commitment and purity.
Seriously though, suit yourself. If you aren't down with minor fraud, that's commendable. It's just that I have no problem with it. :D I figure if a company makes shoddy merchandise, they should be the ones to take the cost of it. And they do, when my hardware breaks down.

I stand corrected on the Boba-Fett issue. Even if i consider myself a big star-wars fan, i can't bring myself to reading the books, simply because I don't want to spoil the movies by knowing the storyline...so hence my wrong opinion on Boba-Fett

Get 28 books (and counting!) under your belt, then we'll talk. =)
