I saw Win4Lin not long ago, and, just wondering, is there any free version of something like that (that shows the desktop and has alot of compatibility ?)

Ok as far as I know Win and Linux4win are two different things you can down load most any Linux product for free and I know that Mandrake 8.0 has Linux for Win in it. Just boot windows and run the Mandrake 8.0 Cd #1 and it will display a box then click the Linux4Win and go from there. I have never used it though.

Win4lin, allows you to run Windows, 95.98/SE, ME within a window inside the KDE or Gnome or any other X-Window interface on Linux. The only drawback of Win4lin is it does not support Direct X as of yet. But they are working on it. Hopefully that helps a bit. Win4lin will allow you run basically everything but windows games. =(

Linux 4 Win is a Mandrake thing, what you have to do to enable it is this, reboot with Setup disc one in your cd-rom drive. When the setup program window pop's up hit F1, then type in LNX4WIN at the command line.

What this will do is install Linux into a folder within your fat Partition called LNX4WIN. It will also set-up your boot manager to include the option of booting Windows or Linux (Linux is the default choice) The beauty of this system is it allow's you to run Linux on a completely FAT32 Type system without a worry of messing up your Partition's or losing any program information.

Hope this clears it all up a bit ?

I just looked at Win4Lin's web site and it looks like buying a license code is required. If I don't buy a license code does it work on a demo basis, or does it just not work at all? Anybody know?
