Hi all, This morning I did a PSU-Fans only test and was disappointed to find out that my biggest noise problem wasn't caused by my delta, it was caused by 2 80mm fans that were suggested to me here, they were said to be noiseless at the site, but guess what, they tricked us all.

I am looking for a solution, I want a _noiseless_ 80mm fan that still does the job, I will replace the 60mm fan delta with another but my 2 front 80mm fans which were rated to be 55cfm each really sounded like 2 deltas, anyone know of god QUIET 80mm fans they have tested? (2 sound louder than 1)

Here are the 80mm fans I used and now abandoned:
Sunnon Extreme Output 80mm Fan

Thanx for your suggestions,

Sunons can be loud. Hoot recomends a Sanyo Denki as a very quiet and good fan. I do not remember which model he likes best.

Your other option is to run them on 7 volts. You do this by switching the red wire with one of the black grounds. I have a pin extractor that makes this a 20 second operation.

heh, well, I don't want to rock the boat or anything but they really are very loud, they hide my Delta38 with ease, I disconnected it while those 2 working and a tiny bit of difference resulted. When I took those 2 out over the delta, I clearly felt a decrease in noise.

would you please post a pic of this extracter, I don't know what your talking about exactly, and a pic would clear that up in seconds.

Have you looked at any Panaflo fans, they move a good amount of air with alot less noise.

Panaflo 80mm Low Specifications
Size: 80mm x 80mm x 25.5mm
Power Consumption: .82W
Air Volume: 24CFM
Noise (in Decibles): 21 dBA.

or

Panaflo 80mm High Specifications
Size: 80mm x 80mm x 25.5mm
Power Consumption: 2.08W
Air Volume: 39.6 CFM
Noise (in Decibles): 32 dBA.

wish I knew what the dB meassure of the Sunnons were.

I think I'll just do the 7v mod for the fans rather than spend money on more fans, what would that cut me down to from 55CFM? Is it a linear decrease? Because then I'd get 32CFM and I think it would take care of the noise.

Thanx for the suggestions...

The more RPM a fan turns and the more CFM a fan flows, the higher the noise will be. Of course those extreme output Sunon fans are noisy. Who told you they'd be quiet? Get a fan with db rating down in the low 30's if you want quiet, but this sacrifices air flow. If you want high CFM and quiet, you have to go up to a bigger fan, like the 92mm.
