I am building a Dual AMD 1.4G System and I need to cool it. I was considering a pair of sk6 fans and a few case fans. I am wondering if this will keep it cool enough. I was also interested in water cooling but I don't know if that would be cost effective for me or not. If you have any suggestions, leave me a message.

I would say that two SK6's would be very good, if you wanted watercooling then you would have to make up some sort of splitter system which might cost more since you will be moving the water to 2 places. but with 2 SK6's and a few 92mm or 120 mm panaflos that would work nicely, if you wanted the system to be really cool, get two Swiftech 462's and get some baddass 80mm fans to place on top, thatd work much better (not very costly tho)

I'm confused, I though the only procs capable of being dualed-out by AMD were the MP. If that's not the case, then can any proc be used as such. Is so, I think that I have to invest in another 1.33GHz and new mobo.

By my understanding the others can be used.. they just werent MADE for it... but should work...

but I could be wrong..

two SK6s would be fine for your system, case cooling is also an important issue and I think that you should cut the fan grills inside the case to improve airflow that way there is no resistance in airflow.

hey speedy, what mobo are you running. I want to go that route myself, and so am wondering which mobo to get. From what I could find, Tyans are the only ones out right now

I think you have to use MP cpus, because if you didn't I would think there would be a lot more dual cpu motherboards out already. Guess I could be wrong. Anyone know for sure?

it's my understanding that only the mp's and durons work. I heard that you can't use the tbirds because their voltage is too high.

Wow, I didn't think t-birds could go dual either, but if you have it sitting right there in front of you, hey I can't argue

alrighty, dumb question

have seen these things on PriceWatch but don't know what they are.

whats an MP CPU?

and last i heard Tyans were the only dual Athlon mobo out there and they could only handle at max the 1.2Ghz Tbirds. again, haven't looked into this but don't know for certain.

okay the 1.4 tbirds no can't be run in dual mobos

1.2 MPs can be run in both regular and dual mobos if bios supports it.

get the new alpha heatsinks at PCNUT they are the best and only 40bucks without fans!!! Alpha 0845T is the model and they rock.

Would a moderator please comment on this Thread? I would greatly appreciate it.

Ok.. I will clear this up right now.. I am building adual system as we speak. The SK6's are probaly the best way to for air cooling on that Tyan thuder or tiger. I would go with those alpha or swiftechs but they dont fit. Tyan violated the clearance zone with the headers on the motherboard being to close to the socket. The only way to get those big sinks on them would be golden sockets which also would allow you to overclock the board. They do run $50 a peice. Go ith the Sk6. As fas as the regualt athlons working they do work. However since they were not designed to be smp they get pooor results so i would reomend the mp's or a the duron 1ghz or 1.1ghz as they have the proper cores to do so and have shown to get results. Any questions just ask. I have done a lot of research about this board.

whats IS an MP cpu?

an MP cpu is a cpu designed to be used in an SMP (Symmetrical Multi-Processor) system. Palominos are mp cpu's but tbirds are technically not.

Where could I find some of those golden sockets that you are talking about and how difficult would they be to put on? If you could get me this info that would be great.... mkay..hah!

Read this thread is should provide you with a lot of info:
Dual AMD info (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?threadid=39318)

Be advised that using non mp cpu's will lead very poor results as they are not meant for smp.
