I was talking to a friend of mine and he told me that if I dont have a certain chip that I cant possibly get to 2GHZ no matter what cooling I have because it wont go that high for some reason on some chips. I was wondering that if that is true are those only the old chips or the new ones and how can I tell which one I have?
Thanks a lot
btw- i have an Athlon 1.2/266fsb w/ASUS A7A266

You can tell which core you have by the code printed on the cpu core. I highly doubt that any athlon will get to 2 GHz unless you are using dry ice or something to cool it.

Nice one Hugo!
I canīt believe in People claiming 2 GHZ + Results on current Athlons...I think the highest Overclock on this Forum was a little over 1700..and that was with a Vapochill system which cools the cpu below freezing point...
The only way to get over 2 Ghz is to use liquid nitrogen or dry ice. Both things which your cpu wonīt survive for long!
I heard and red a couple of times too that the physical limit of the current TB's should be at 1700 maximum.

With vapochill you can easy hit 1800-1900 if you get a good chip...
But 2ghz i dont think wont be possible atleast not for more than a couple of mins before that poor chip dies.

Thanks for the pic, Hugo. I had no idea what those things meant when I looked at my chip!

Maybe that is why I am stuck at 1.6?

Well I just hit 1800 with my new Vapochill :D
It's not 100% stable yet, I still have to enhance my cooling on the mosfets. I've added heatsinks to them, and I'm currently running 1725mhz ROCK stable. If i place a large fan in front of mosfets, i can run 1800 stable, but without the fan, she get's squirrly :)
