Some of my audio drivers weren't installing so i erased mt HDD completly. So i go to install XP upgrade. It had about 16 minutes left of installation and my pc restarts. So i figure alright, lets try again. So it acts like windows is loading but then says windows setup is restarting. The setup started at the 4th bullet,"Installing Windows".
It keeps doing this every time and i have tried like 5 times.
2 posiblities could be that i bent pins on my cpu but fixed it.
Or it is just my maxtor hdd. I could always rma it i needed....
Please help. If you figure out the problem i will give you a dollar :D.

If it's just restarting it's more likley to be a CPU/RAM/PSU problem than something with the hard disk. Start by checking your temps and voltages in BIOS to make sure everything is in order. You could also try reseating your RAM and CPU. If that fails to make a difference you could try a different CPU and RAM.

you must have a hardware problem then, go into the bios and try to disable the onboard audio

But it wouldnt finish installing XP....
when you boot up press f2 or delete or f1, whichever one it is to get into the bios settings.
then you can disable it

Yes, i know...i think you misunderstood...I am not able to install windows...i have no OS instaled....I am not in windows...i am not installing things...
The problem is that during the windows installation it keeps stopping at the same place.
Right, and rhino56 thinks that the onboard audio may be causing the problem. If you use the bios to disable the onboard sound, you may be able to finish installing windows. Please give it a try.

I've had this problem before and usually it's a PCI card that's locking it up. Try removing all PCI cards and installing XP.

It could be crashing while initializing the hardware if there's a hardware problem with the onboard sound.
Did you try clearing the cmos? (it is all at stock, right?)
