first- i dont know if this is int he correct section. if not, feel free to move it.

now to the point...
i have a dvd player that has been giving me nothing but trouble.:temper: im too broke to buy a new one, so thats not an option. first it was running really hot, so i put a couple fans in it to keep it cool which worked quite well.

shortly thereafter it wouldnt open or read a disk. i took it all apart and found there was a little contact switch that was very poorly designed. it was meant to be closed when the disk tray was closed. the problem was it got smushed by the tray so that the two solder points made contact, and the switch was stuck closed. a bit of resoldering and heathsrink to insulate the connections later, the switch was back in action.

however, once i put it all back together, the dvd player still sucks. :bang head now it only displays about 1 frame every three seconds. i suspect the laser is way out of alignment or something (if that happens) or i accidentaly touched it and got it all dirty. i tried to clean it with some rubbing alcohol and a cuetip, but it didnt help.

any ideas of what could be the problem, and how to fix it? im about to try repairing it with my 12 guage.
